I have a feeling I know what the answer is, unfortunately. :(
Hoping to one day build these great machines that we affectionatly call "Coasters"
There is always hope! They are fixing up other things around the park and maybe they are fixing the fog. Have faith :)
Let's Get Weird.
Its more than just a simple problem with the fog/mister machines. It evidently screwed with the fire suppression systems that were in the tunnel (and the station when they were having problems with it spilling into the station). My best guess is that they would have to completely redo the fire safety system to turn the effect back on. Oh well, glad I got one or two rides in with the fog.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I don't see why they went with the thick fog which caused all the problems. If anything they could have just focused something towards the end of the launch instead of the entire tunnel. Like a system that shoots a lighter fog in intervals (like in sequence with the led lights) and can disperse quickly.

Cedar Point and working fog machine are two things I don't think can ever be in the same sentence. Didn't they have fog machines on the lift of DT and the tunnels of Magnum way back when? Seems like fog machines are the bane of maintenance crews at CP. I say leave the fog machines to the professionals along with professional theming and just leave the ride as is. I highly doubt 99% of the riders on Maverick, let alone any of the rides that had them previously, even noticed the rides had fog machines to begin with.

^Magnum occasionally has fog. I always had guests coming up to me in a panic thinking that Magnum was on fire. The Live E Department has no problem at all with keeping fog machines working. In fact, they work too good sometimes;)
^They work good? I like the shows, but I always thought the fog machines worked "well." ;)

I say if they can do as good as they do on fog for Halloweekends, they can do other stuff.

There could be a simple solution if they were running your normal garden variety type of fog machine. Most of them use water based fog juice. To clean them, every so often you're suppose to flush them out with straight water. When you do that, it's actually steam being pumped out. This still gives you the illusion of fog with basically the only difference being that it dissipates more quickly and isn't quite as thick (cloudy). If they were to try that, I don't think they would have any trouble with the fire system.

That's the problem though, it wasn't actually fog, it was a fairly dense mist. I'm not sure if it was completely water-based (probably not), but it was very dense. I remember actually being a little wet visibly after riding it with the mist effect on.

Even the fog for Halloweekends doesn't always do what we hope for.
11 years.
Wasn't the fog on Maverick actually mist? And was there some reason they couldn't use mechanical fog, like interference with some kind of sensors on the track or something?

That's interesting. I like using a lot of fog at my DJ shows cause it really accents the lights. I'm doing a high school prom this Sat. and the early word is I might not be able to use it because it will mess with their fire system and sprinklers.

That's probably true. I've set off mine in my house with a fog machine (I've thrown some serious parties). The smoke detectors used in the indoor haunts at CP also had to be tolerant of the fog.

Mist/Fog machines? I've given up on those. I'm just hoping the water cannons keep working.

Fog in your house ?! That's sweet ! I use to run with a band years ago, of which, I was the self proclaimed "fog tech". I used 2 foggers. I'd hang one in the light truss and set one on the floor on the opposite side. I also used 4 fans positioned just right. I had smoke blowing all over the place. Probably overkill a bit, but hey, it looked and smelled great (I used a lot of different flavors).

Those are the best nights of my life! :)
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Although the title of this thread brings my palm to my forehead, I will chime in on the topic...
The only thing I ever really got out of the mist in the tunnel on Maverick was how it masked the end of the tunnel. You would just see a blur of lights, and then suddenly you were back out in the light heading up over the pond. If they could just find a way to have fog near the LED/End of Tunnel section, I think that would bring back the effect that people miss. I don't think it's necessary to have thick mist for the entire length of the tunnel.
