Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio, June 12 -- The Old West will get even wilder in 2009! The historic amusement park/resort has announced plans for a new roller coaster for next summer named Tumbleweed. Located in Frontiertown and replacing the existing Mean Streak roller coaster, Tumbleweed will be the first wooden roller coaster built at Cedar Point in 18 years!

Guests will begin their exciting ride on Tumbleweed in the western themed station. They will board the trains and climb to a height of 172 feet. But this isn't your typical lift hill. Built by IntaRide LLC of Maryland, Tumbleweed will utilize the same cable lift technology that helps carry Millennium Force to it's 310 foot pinnacle. This technology allows for a fast thrilling ascent. Once you reach the top of this lift hill, hold on to your spurs! Tumbleweed will take you down 165 feet at an astonishing 72 degree angle. Riders will be thrilled by several intense moments of airtime, and sharp banking curves, while achieving a top speed of 68 mph. The unique prefabricated wooden coaster track will allow for more intense elements than what wood coaster riders are accustomed to at Cedar Point, but with a much smoother ride than our guests have experienced before! After traversing the 6800 feet of twisted track, riders will experience a one-of-a-kind "splashdown" before returning to the station. This element will run along the midway allowing spectators to get cooled off by the splash as the coaster races by.

Situated on 4.5 acres , Tumbleweed will use the land where the existing Mean Streak coaster stands, as well as the previous Planning and Design office. Tumbleweed will cost approximately $13 million to build, making it one of the most expensive wooden coasters ever built.

"We know our guests have been craving a new wood coaster" said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "and when we discussed removing Mean Streak, we wanted to make sure that the replacement would be leaps and bounds above what the previous ride could offer. We can gladly say that Tumbleweed will meet and far exceed our guests expectations, and put Cedar Point back in the forefront of the wooden coaster industry."

Guests will have through August to enjoy the Mean Streak before deconstruction will begin. Riders will be able to brave Tumbleweed when the park opens for the 2009 season next May. (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.)

Guests will be able to follow the construction progress of Tumbleweed at the park's Web site, www.cedarpoint.com. Exclusive webcams, "OnPoint!" and the FUNtimes newsletter will help keep thrill-seekers up-to-date on the happenings at the ride site throughout the construction process.

True?

You really think Cedar Point would call a monster coaster like that Tumbleweed?

Isn't KI building a new coaster with a spashdown effect? Perhaps that is the coaster that the release is referring to and the parks got mixed up? Seems like it would be hard to tear down and build a new coaster in the same spot over the winter.....Wouldn't they have started by now?

I was hoping it was true.

Silly man, and here I was starting to wonder if I needed to start finalizing a trip to CP for one last ride. :-)

Well done Josh, that is a pretty realistic press release..That being said you are a donkey if you believed that :)

I can't believe you think people would get offended by the Schwabinchen lady like that. I mean, c'mon. If any of you ever venture to the mall, or a local sleezy carnival, then you have nothing to worry about with the lady statue on the ride. Well, at least that's what the Strongsville, ohio carnival was like....:)

Josh, I believe you have a future in marketing . . . otherwise known as slinging bullsh**. ;)

But for what it was worth, it was well worth it. You had me slobbering for a minute there.

^Didn't John Ashcroft put a robe over the Schwabinchen chick?
