To theme or not to theme.

I like rides themeing, but themeing the entire point isn't important to me. It would seem kind of strange after 37 years to see the park themed.

I also like that Cedar Fair doesn't use the same coaster names throughout their parks.

But if you put more theming into a coaster or ride then that takes money that could have been put into the ride itself. I love a good theme but I am more about the ride itself.

Yes, the ride itself is most important than the theme. But just theming the trains like on TTD is good enough for me!

Giving rides theme can help advertise the ride itself. If I were told to choose between SUE and WT, and let's say I have never heard or seen of them before, I would choose SUE simply because its named after Superman and I know who he is a strong powerful guy. I would infer that SUE is better than WT, even though it really isn't.

Just my thoughts. I may be wrong...

Yeah I understand what your saying, BUT CP doesn't need some stupid gimmic to get ppl to notice their rides or park. What CP is doing is building The Best Damn Amusement Park Period. If you want themes go to ANY six flags or Disney. The only thing CP needs to do is have some nation wide comercials. I've never seen something on TV about CP down south. Maybe one radio spot. But the themes don't really matter. Just a thought....
We all agree that the ride is more important than the themeing, but I do recall an overwhelming response here when everyone saw the theming for TDD. If done correctly, a well done theme is a nice bonus to a good ride anyway you look at it.

Unless CP doesn't do upkeep to the theme! Then It becomes subject to jokes ie,DT!

Cedar Point DOES have theme areas and I think Frontiertown is as good of theme area as any theme park I have been to. I also think the back of the park has a much different atmosphere than the the front which is much older.
I don't think Disaster Transport was a badly themed ride at all. The original concept was a little silly but it was still fun.
We will all see if Top thrill Dragster will make a change as for themeing of future rides.
It wasn't badly themed just left to fall apart. Don't get me wrong I love DT. I still love the frontier trail, although I do wish people could go up on the balcony of Fort Sandusky!

I agree - Frontier Trail and Frontiertown have a completely different atmosphere from the other midways. That's part of the charm of Cedar Point.

I also miss going upstairs at Fort Sandusky. Memories ...

The problem with Disaster Transport, right from the start, was the audio in the building. The acustics were so bad, it was really hard to understand the dialog. If you concentrated hard and understood what they were saying, it was actually very entertaining and I think it was supposed to be a spoof of a Disney type space ride. To bad the audio was so terrible, if it would have been better, I think the original themeing would have had more lasting appeal.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Wasn't Tim Matheson (Eric "Otter" Straton from Animal House) in the video?

I personally say forget the theming and pour whatever money you save into making that next coaster have one more inversion, stretch ten feet taller, or go a couple mph faster. But that's just the coaster nut inside me talking...
