To theme or not to theme.

Do you think Cedar point would benefit from some sort of themeing? I know they have kinda been trying for a 50's style thing with coasters and Johnny Rockets and also with the doo whop(sp?) singers, and also there is the little frontier type themeing. But, do you think that if Cedar Point got a themeing makeover like something close to IOA where the themeing was VERY apparent and not just a subtle thing in the back of your head. I know that it probably would never happen because everything is already built and it would not be easy to build around everything and change it than to start anew and build specially themed rides. But would you find this a positive thing for CP to do, or would you like it just the way it is?
Personally, I find Cedar Points lack of themeing a major plus. I do like to go to Disney World for that experience, but when I want to go just for rides, CP is the only place I think about. Their small attempt at Camp Snoopy is nice and belonging for the younger children, but honestly I don't see it being a major turning point for the average guests.

MANTIS ROCKS 2002 & 2003

ithink we destroy camper village and make a city of the future back there with two 1000 foot tall cylindrical towers with shops and an F1 race coursearound the midways (like monte carlo, racefans) i also support the idea of a monorail from the mainland so we can get even more coasters (yeah i no we got room....) and some other cool ish that would make the point a self supporting city

i just didnt wanna make a new thread

but themes? no

I do like the themeing of individual rides (ie: TTD = drag racing, DT = well, you know, Millennium Force = space), but not really in a themed "zone" (such as "Tommorrowland").

I do however like the Fright Zone during Halloweekends, and it doesn't take all too much to get it into that theme.

Yeah, I hear the theming was pretty good in the Fright Zone;)

Well, I only went through it once, and it was at night. There was fog, and people walking around scaring people, and scary music playing over all that. It didn't seem like it was "all-out", yet still entertaining.

Is tells ya, fright zone is nothing compared to Knott's Scary Farm. 13 Haunted Houses, and the entire park is decked out. Walking through the park is like a haunted house in it's self, because zombies are jumping out everywhere you walk.

You have no idea how much work it is to get all the elements in Fright Zone to work together. fog/lighting and sound are not things you can just put on the ground and it all works.

Not to mention makeup.. ;)

Rob, what kind of makeup/costume were you wearing last year? I might have taken a picture of you and not even have known it.

CP needs no themeing. The atmosphere of the park is enough. Look at DT. It was cool at first, but as upkeep dwindled, the theming got, well, bad. I just hope TTD doesnt end up like DT in 10 or 12 years. I think its good for some rides to be themed, but to theme a whole park, like at IOA, is unnecessary. The park it self should speak for it self, not some cheap props.

I think the theme or lack of themeing at CP is one thing that makes it more diverse than other parks. Themeing is nice here or there, but I would never want to see the whole park themed. I would say it is already themed in a unique sort of way, with the midways how they are set up, and other little sections of the park.

Yes I agree, that is what I was going to say. It's theme is themeless fun.

This is from [an old episode of] SNL's Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey:

Dodonpa, the world's fastest roller coaster, is set to open later this month in Japan. Unfortunately, only eight people in Japan are tall enough to ride it.

If they "destroy Camper Village", it would be a terrible shame.
