Okay. This is a recent idea I came up with while sweeping. Us sweeps need to stick together this 2009 year. Why? Well, that's easy. We are the ones who wear the yellow suits, we are the ones who get rained on (when we are too far from our break area to get out rain coats), and we are the ones who pick up after everyone. I was talking to someone the other day and they said that without us sweeps the park would be covered with litter. So, what is this forum really about? I have no idea. I just thought it would be cool to share some sweet sweep stories... so if you have any please share. Or, any stories from CP employees. Just... thinking outloud.

Ok, so here are two questions from a GP'er!! First, how often do you apply sunscreen and do you have to pay for it? (it almost seems like a workplace necessity to me!). Also, is there anyone you know who doesn't wear sunscreen? (which would seem crazy to me!)
Next, have you seen any celeb's at CP when working this year (Brady Quinn excluded), or have you overheard any good guest arguments or convo's?? Like maybe a guest bragging about being at CP with his mistress or 2nd "secret" family...anything juicy like that?!
I was at the park yesterday. It looked beautiful, and it was very clean. So thankyou sweeps. :)

Funny, I've got this song stuck in my head:

A sweep is as lucky as lucky can be..."

I'm shocked they don't supply sunscreen for those employees in direct sunlight for a majority of the day.
...Who am I kidding? No I'm not.
Sweeps deserve much more credit and respect than they currently receive. Hopefully that changes as time goes on now that the department is a part of Park Operations again.

Yeah I must say, on my trips last year, the park and areas outside the park were very clean!
I worked at KI as a sweep(05-07), and pulled trash. The park didn't proved sunscreen for us ether, just our managers did. I can say that pulling trash is the hardest job, main reason is the weight.

Hey guys, I definitely want to give you guys some well deserved appreciation. I am in dept. sup of Park Services at KD. I know that my guys work their butts off day in and day out to keep our park clean. They often hear me talk about the pure size of the CP property and they are amazed at how big the property is let alone how you guys keep it clean up there. We do a great job at our park too as far as I am concerned. But you guys really do have your work cut out for you. I wish there was some way to do a mini competition between parks and be able to judge them. You know, some sort of cleanliness competition. I mean we do little games in the department at KD such as letter/word search in the park where we hide letters or words in the most detailed critical eye spots that they really have to be on their toes to keep up with and such. We are divided into four areas and the area that wins usually we will do a grill day for them or an ice cream day or something like that for them. It is definitely a job that most of the time does not get the respect it deserves, but I believe whole heartedly that the folks working it know how important their job is to the park's performance. You guys as well as my guys always have my neverending respect. Thank you thank you thank you. It is the same as we tell our guys every day... thank you thank you thank you for doing the job you do and doing it so well... to all Cedar Fair sweeps and Park Services Dept.'s for keeping the parks sooo clean.
Thirteen years in rides at PKD, then KD in Doswell, VA on multiple rides and everything from Ride Host to Area Supervisor. Now, I am the Department Supervisor of Park Services and proud of it with the best guys in the industry... and the occasional Rides shift to help out.
Hey sweeps! I know how it feels to clean up after people it sucks but someone has to do it and its all of you, I just would like to say THANK YOU for all of your hard work you all do every season to keep the park nice and clean for us guest.
I also have question,
Have any of you met Dick Kinzel?

I just want to say that there is a month old video about the sweeps on cedarpoint.com. Here is a link for it: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/index.cfm
Sorry if this has already been brought up.

I just got hired to be a sweep...I know this is going to be a hard summer but I am totally excited for it!~
I know this is an old forum topic and I am double posting, but it's really cool looking back on this in retrospect after the season is over for me.
For the first month I wore sunscreen every day, and applied it as much as I could. I got burnt on my shoulders from apparently not putting enough on.
But after that first month, I just got lazy and stopped wearing sunscreen. I would put it on on rare occasion, but it is HIGHLY INADVISABLE. Although I must say I never burnt since I got so used to the sun!
I have to say, I have never been so tan in my life. I quit in late July, and I STILL have a tan. Regretfully, I also still have terrible, terrible Cedar tan-tastic tan lines. They are most prominent on my legs, and I just can't wear short dresses/skirts. It just looks stupid. So if you don't want a ridiculous tanline tanning when not at work is a must! And I am far too lazy for that!
I met Dick Kinzel once, after doing a morning good morning spiel once. He said I did a good job. Gotta say, it felt great getting the recognition. But Hildebrandt was better with the compliments, he told me I had a good voice and a great smile (even though I had my back to him haha)
Being a sweep is a rather thankless job, but it's people like you that gave people like me the occasional recognition this summer that pulled me through it, so thank you!

Speaking of the tan lines- I worked all summer at Ripcord in 2008. Two years later and I still have the sock tan despite not spending much time in the sun these last two summers. I'm fairly convinced it's permanent.
