Tires Removed?

I was at the park Saturday night and while in line for Dragster, I was watching the trains go flying past on the brake-run. To my amazement, but actually I'm not surprised, the large "dragster" tires have been removed from all 5 trains. Only left now are the spoilers and the "engine". Can anyone give a strait answer to why they were removed? Or is this another case of theming gone bad for CP....

I was told that the ride went down for an hour today too remove the tires for maintance. The ride was then brought back up for the G.P. to ride. They should be back on soon.

Yeah I was in line when they did it. I'm not sure why they did this and was going to ask the same thing. Here's a picture of one of the trains http://community.webshots.com/photo/67986571/73558256LyXleY

I was one of the last to ride it the night of Saturday the 17th, and I had noticed the missing tires also. A worker had mentioned something along the line that the "dragster tires" were actually spinning and thus causing problems. I don't know why they weren't locked in place, or if they were, how they may have come loose.
I saw someone exiting a train on Friday and by putting his hand on one of the tires, he was able to actually make it turn with very little effort. You would think that they would be locked in place and not be able to turn freely. But then again, what harm does it do if they turn a little bit on occasin. It's not as if they are turning at a high rate of speed or something.
That is why. On Thursday when I went, the tires were actually spinning very fast when the trains were in motion.
hey RllrCstrDude187,
I was lookin through your webshots and I came across this http://community.webshots.com/photo/67986571/72224792zZUCGz

Coincidently, you got a shot of my friend and I. I'm the one with the black hair and glasses and my friend is the big guy with glasses with brown hair, both of us with TTD shirts on. What a coincidence.

Back on topic....It wouldn't surprise me if the tires were spinning, let's hope we can get an update on this soon.

Many of you have mentioned that the tires were spinning. I was under the impression, that this, along with the smoke and the countdown lights was supposed to happen..

Give it a rest go watch the matrix! CP has minor problems with things that were unexpected with this ride, things you can't plan for. hey atleast it isn't an arrow prototype!

yer goin at it again, neo. calm down. just because Cedar Point doesn't have some scenery up does not make them as bad as a Six Flags park. Cedar Point is still a wonderful park nonetheless, even if they don't have some smoke or countdown lights...

You guys read my post wrong. When I say I was under the impression that this was supposed to happen, I meant that I thought the tires were supposed to spin, and not be locked down. Instead of jumping to conclusions, and seeing as how you've got some years to go in High School, I'd not reply...

You guys need to meet somewhere, whip 'em out, and measure them.

Well when you start a thread that basically bashes the way a ride operates, then you post something like that, what do you think people are going to percive it.

So anyways - back to the topic!

I'm no physicist or anything, but I do know the basics, and it seems like any fairly large object spinning with some speed would be likely to cause unwanted forces being applied to the trains. So basically I'm thinkin that once the trains reached the top or the end of the ride, the spinning tires may have sped the ride up, or slowed it down more than they wanted.

On a completely other different hypothesis, they may have been considered a safety hazard to riders getting off if they were still spinning.

Hmmm........

That is my thinking. maybe they are getting a new way of attaching the tires to trains.

Rotating mass does cause forces to act on the train, absolutely. I'm sure you've seen the experiment where someone sitting on a spinning stool with a spinning bicycle wheel begins to turn themselves when they hold the wheel horizontally.

Exactly. I was just thinking of that same experiment my physics prof did back in college. A wheel spinning the wrong way could be exerting a backwards force when ascending the tower.

I wonder if this "problem" could be fixed with a couple of simple welds on the axle??

Yea, I think stopping the wheels from spinning isnt a problem at all, Just basically weld the tires onto the axles. I never knew the tires were spinning. I always thought they were welded on.

Thtas funny, while I was watching the ride, I was thinking it would really add to the effect if the tires were spinning! It looks kind of strange seeing a 'car' moving that fast with the tires not rotating. But like everyone else, I assumed the wheels where not on axles but welded in place.
