Tires and Engine on dragster trains.

On opening day, the launch was silent for the first part of the day. The reving was still going but when it actually launched, it went dead silent. We got on it twice that day, and the second time (front row) the launch was making the tire screeching sound again.

I would like to see the theming back on, I never got to see the trains with the theming.

I saw when the tire flew. It was really weird. People though the ride would be closed due to safety issues.
Drat! Somebody beat me to the huge spoiler = down force thing. Maybe the spoiler did help to prevent rollbacks somehow. I hate to be the one to say it, but the themeing is slowly going the way of Disaster Transport. That's a sad thought. I guess that's why Cedar Point is an Amusement Park and not a Theme Park.

I went to CP in June of '03 after the tire accident so I don't know what I'm missing. I could really care less either way.

I was always under the assumption that they were just fake tires and engines. Am I understanding right that the tires were real? That would add an amazing weight to the train.

Tires and spoiler were all real, the motor simulated.

Have you theen my baythball?

I sure hope the motor was simulated! Perfectly good waste of a V8 w/ a blower.

Actually, they were real engine blocks and air intakes. They just didn't have any engine innerds like pistons, camshaft, connecting rods, etc.

TTD '03 Crew (76 Launches - 71 Complete Circuits)

Must've been a cost-cutting measure, surprisingly. I would've thought that a fabricated faux-motor would be cheaper than buying a block of aluminum. Then again, it also makes perfect sense.

Is it really true that a tire flew off and landed in the ID lagoon?

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

Yes. Although I don't think that it was the lagoon, I think it was on MF Island. *** Edited 6/8/2004 5:30:34 PM UTC by johnz***
I feel the same way about TTD's theming. I try not to think about it when I ride, but I can't help but shed a frustrating tear everytime I see the back ends of those trains. It definately looks like the trains are not finished. I would think fiberglass replacement tires and a spoiler would definately be do-able.

Oh well, maybe some day, when the the ridership decreases, and the queues become storage space, they'll throw some black light paint on the ride and call it good. *** Edited 6/15/2004 5:29:43 PM UTC by CPcyclone***

By the way, has the sixth train arrived back yet?

As I sad before: "They could at least bring the spoilers back."

From everyone on the CP&LE, RIP Mayor Scott...~

Personally, I'd rather have the extra seats. More capactiy, higher number of riders per hour. And who doesn't like the feeling of being semi-launched over that hill at the top?

johnz- as someone who was on the train ahead of the one that lost it's tire, I can tell you the tire ended up under the Iron Dragon track that is right next to the Winner's Circle outside of TTD's exit.

As for the sixth train, my friend spent the week working on TTD last week (he's usually on PT) and he said they were simply told that it "wasn't ready yet."

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
