Tires

Those look like real tires, to me. Anyone know if they are? Those on the trains look "to scale", anyway. Just curious. I guess I'll know for sure in a couple days.

My guess is that they are not real, but probably solid. If they were real, they could pop if one little thing hit them at
120 mph. I think.

I think that those of you expecting something huge and cool will be disappointed. There isn't a single logical reason to pour a footer and enclose it in an ugly wall for six months.

Okay, if they are real they can handle speeds of 325 mph plus while touching the ground, I highly doubt that they would pop if something hit them at 120 mph!

Ditto! Not just touching the ground. But, being put under, on average, 5000 h.p., and twisted&tourqued so far out of shape that your average touring radial would look as though it's been through a paper shredder, after the first few revolutions. Also, if you've ever watched real drag racing, those tires become tall and narrow from the centrifugal force of the rpm. I suppose that the best (construction as well as value) tire CP could've used for this application is a real dragster slick. I will know for sure, soon enough, though.

I was under the assumption that drag racing tires are solid tires anyway. They squeal their tires and produce the "smoke" to burn (melt) some of the rubber on the tires to get them to grip better during their take off. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've always thought.

Nope, they are still filled with air. It just has a thick layer of rubber that "burns off".

I don't think they are real racing slicks. As I sit here comparing pictures we took this morning to the NHRA telecast on TV, TTD's tires look too small and too narrow to be real. The surface looks too rounded and there is a mold seam right down the middle that I wouldn't expect on real tires. Also, "GOODYEAR" looks like it is just screenpainted on the sidewalls.

Trust me.. they are real.. I've spent ALOT of time working on this ride the past few weeks.

The reas for the size difference is because they make them in various sizes for each class of drag car.

Yep. They're real! The mould seem? Have you ever seen new tires? On a Top Fuel Dragster, I think that seem gets obliterated on the first pass. At least, the ones I've seen. Rounded tread? Small? They looked pretty standard, to me. Yes, I've been around enough of 'em to know.

Of course, on TTD there's no weight pressing down on the tires. On a real Dragster you have most of the weight of the car on the tires, compressing them a bit.
