After my trip to Michigan's Adventure on Tuesday, I decided to hit up the point on Thursday. My girlfriend was still staying down there (shes been down there since Coastermania) and her family, who has been in Iraq, was there. They were staying in camper village.
So I made the trip down there, and got there around 8:15. My girlfriend had just rolled out of bed probably 3-5 minutes prior to me arriving, and they still had to take showers and all that. I was going to go do ERT, but they're like 'nothing will be open, so wait for us'. Well, Raptor and maXair were open, and at 9:10 they returned from the showers. They told me to just go do ERT. So lesson #1 learned: Don't wait for women.
So I went into the park, and walked up to Raptor. Waved to all the poor schmucks waiting behind the barrier. Sucks to not have Joe Cool. Anyway, got a good ride on Raptor, although she was running slow. By the time I got off, however, the barriers had opened and there was a bunch of people waiting in line. Ugh.
So I saw Tami and we went over and rode maXair. Then Wicked Twister. And I tried to catch up with the girlfriend. They were over at MF, but then got on the train to go back to Mean Streak, which was closed. Anyway, after a ton of walking, I finally caught up with them at the Wave Swinger.
Quick ride on that piece of junk, and then I headed off to Hotel Breakers for the 100th anniversary celebration. After that, I went back into the park, and rode Magnum. By this time, it was getting really freaking hot.. and really uncomfortable.
So anyway, I forget what all happened, but we ended up going to Soak City. Laid in the lazy river for awhile, and then did a few of the slides. A storm formed right above us, and it started lightning right away. They didn't have time to shut down any of the rides or anything before the strikes were closeby.
Anyway, We hung out at the trailer for awhile. Then we went to Chet and Matts. Good pizza. Then we came back, and I took a nap in the trailer. Then we rode some rides in the evening. Dragster and Raptor. Then another storm was coming in, so we headed to the back. Ended up never making landfall, but Skyride did go down to 20 cabins and then all the way down, as did giant wheel and all the other rides they close down first.
Anyway, I took a few hour nap, and then headed back home. Got to drive through 2 thunderstorms on the way. Blah.
Sounds like a bummer, at least you got to ride TTD, Raptor, and Maggie. I am going next week, hope it cools down.
First trip June 23rd
Well the other lesson to be learned is to not drink the water in Mexico. Or if you do, see a Doctor ASAP. Just about collapsing on the midway in the heat is not fun.
