OK,...so I headed out to the park @ about 2:45pm yesterday. Took Rte 2, but damn it if I didn't get stuck behind a semi going 45mph. **SIGH**.
Arrived at Soak City, and headed towards the lockers to hold my cell phone, keys, wallet, etc. Umm. $8 charge "plus" a $10 deposit? Nooo. So needless to say I kept walking 'til I found the nearest beach chair to relax. I wasn't even lying out for a 1/2 hour when the black clouds began to roll in and everyone was asked to leave immediately.
I then walked towards the Good Time Theater where a line had already formed 45 minutes before the 6pm show. It was sprinkling, but nothing too threatening. Soon enough the sky was an odd yellow and we noticed a quick moving black funnel like cloud heading in from the North. Security started to cover the park. They finally let us into the theater and then yep...all hell broke loose with the weather. You could hear the rain pounding on the roof.
I sat in the 3rd row next to a row of unsupervised 'tweens. HUGE MISTAKE. They were kicking the chairs in front of them and playing "tag" beforehand. The lady in front of me kindly turned around and asked them to calm down- and the one girl said "Eww whatever...what a bitch!"...and she looked like she was 10!! They then would throw candy on the floor near their friends and get on their knees and "crawl" to them. They laughed and talked loudly throughout the entire show- not paying attention at all. At one point, an usher came over to warn them to be quiet. Yeah they didn't listen.
Two of the skaters (Michael and I forget the girls name) fell on the ice downstage right at different times but they took it in complete stride and laughed it off. I noticed that other skaters began to take notice and avoided that specific area. It made me nervous for the rest of the performance and I couldn't concentrate.
Afterwards, I headed towards "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"- the doors were already opened- anticipating the crowd since it was "still" raining outside and dark. Got a seat in the 3rd row again, this time behind a former Live Shows performer. It was great to see his excitement throughout the performance!! Behind me was a kid who would screech on command. It was funny at first, but grew old by the 4th or 5th time. It didn't help that his parents were encouraging this 1st grader. To the far left of the theater, there was a group of middle age people who were completely "rockin' out" to the show by singing along to the lyrics, dancing, etc. Everyone loved their involvement.
I walked out of the show at about 7:30pm and it was "still" raining with looming black clouds. It seemed as if the majority of the crowds had left. I walked towards the Magnum Midway and every ride (except those that were covered i.e. Super Himalaya, etc.) was closed.
The weather was NOT going to get any better, and the wind had begun to pick up...so I got in my car (near Soak City) and headed out for dinner. Once I got onto the Causeway, a burst of pouring rain came out of nowhere and I had to pull over. I couldn't see a thing!!! I waited it out for a few minutes, and then headed to Old Navy to pick up some cheap clothes (I forgot to bring boxers- LOL! (I was wearing swimming trunks) for my evening out later). Afterwards, I did a quick walk through of Sandusky Mall and then decided upon Ruby Tuesdays for dinner.
I came in about 8:45pm (they close at 10pm) and ordered the salad bar. The service was attentive and professional, but everything else was horrible. No plates for the salad. 5 empty serving bowls sitting at the bar, etc.
Then drove to a friends where I changed my clothes and took a quick 1 hour "cat nap" before heading out to Club X. Wow. It was empty! I thought Thursdays were "Cedar Point Employee Nights". Aside from some Live Shows guys playing pool and some underagers at the outside patio- that place was dead. I drank a beer and went home.
Decided to be smart and make my trip home by taking the Turnpike. Not so smart after all, as I struggled to stay awake. That and the fact that I saw at least 4 state highway patrol cars. But here I am...safe and sound! :)
