I was in Barnes and Noble today and this one book happened to catch my eye-- oddly enough, in the Teen section. It's called "Thrill Ride" and the cover art shows a horribly drawn roller coaster in the shape of a heart. I flipped it over and it talked about working for the summer at a park. Of course, I HAD to buy it.
Well I've read all of about 50 pages and decided I had to make a post about it. It was written in 2006.... but the main character goes to work at the "Thrill Ride capital of the country" on Lake Erie. Everything she describes fits in with Cedar Point-- the hotels, the rides...everything. She even describes meeting everyone with their first name and their City, State on their name tags. Her roommates friend oversees the Magnum Force.
Yeah, MAGNUM FORCE. I can't stop laughing. Could this GET any better?
I just had to share. If you're a girl (or a guy, I suppose) who's worked at CP, you will find this a super entertaining read!

If there is no actual mention of Cedar Point, it may have been intentionaly called Magnum Force to skirt trademark/copywrite issues.

Obviously that's the case....but I found it hilarious because soooo many guests ask where the "Magnum Force" is :).

I see.
How much was the book?

Don't buy it if you're looking for a realistic "story" about someone who worked at CP. The author is well known for her "romantic novels".
She has one about ski resorts.. ice skating rinks.. going on a cruise... dating an 'older' guy .. "Island girls" .. spending time in Europe and falling love in various cities.
It's fiction... she just did some research and plugged in some references..

Haha, yeah I work at Waldenbooks and we have it there too. It's a typical young adult romance novel, but it is amusing that it's set at "the thrill ride capital of the world" on the shores of Lake Erie. And even though it's not actually at CP, Hawthorne's got the what happens to a relationship once you get here down.. Girl has boyfriend, girl goes to work at amusement park for the summer swearing that she'll stay together with her boyfriend even though he stayed at home, girl meets cute boy while working at amusement park.. and well anyone who's worked at CP can probably figure out the end, lol. (Yes, I have read it.. Jen! :-) )
What you mean....... boys and girls cant just be friends??.... HUH! lol Andrea (oh no boys and girls in the same roooooom) I miss you, so we should definatly hang out and exchange... seeing as we like about 38 seconds away from each other.....
No really I did the same thing, in B&N and then BAM I find this book, buy it, laugh my buns off, and all was right with the world.
They also eat dippin dots which made me giggle a little bit.
Its a nice off season fix for those in dire need... **cough cough** everyone who between seasons on these threads **cough cough**
