Thoughts about 2012

This is the second year in a row now that Corkscrew hasn't been running all three trains. In 2011 the red train was not in operation, and in 2012 the blue train was not in operation. If the pattern continues, it's likely that they will not run the white train next year. I did find it interesting how the unused train could be seen in Mean Streak's infield, with the rest of the old cars rotting away.

Actually, three train operation has been discontinued on Corkscrew since 2009. The white train was missing in 2009. I don't know how likely this is, but Corkscrew might use one of Double Loop's trains that could have been painted red/blue.

Since they added seatbelts, 3 train operation is pointless anyway. So it's not too surprising if they've dropped to permanent 2-train operation.

I have a question for the 15 and 16 year olds that love fast lane. Did you buy the tickets with your own money or did your parents pay for them?

Out of morbid curiosity, what difference does it make?

Brandon

It is easy to say something is awesome if someone else is paying for it.

I suspect their parents are fans of it too.

21 times to the point in 2012,TTD-67,MF-40. Was an OK year. Didn't ride Wildcat or Disaster Transport, but I did in 2011. I'll miss them a little, but only because they're no longer there.

CP getting Carly Ray Jepson was great for CP.

Fast Lane didn't bother me as I'd go,typically,on small crowd days.

My streak of 17 consecutive years of being there on the last operating day ended,oh well, time to start a new streak for that.

But my other streaks were intact and to be added to.

Don't worry about missing closing day, the weather was nearly unbearable.

I don't mean to belittle anyone who liked PWE but there is an option to ride the boats at the Marina for a "tour" of Sandusky Bay and the perspective of seeing the west side of CP from the water. It is an $10 upcharge per person ($8 with Platinum Pass) to ride the boats now and there is no theming anymore, not that there was much in the past decade or so anyway.

Back to the thread's topic, I think 2012 was a positive year for CP. A lot of minor but necessary changes were made to improve the park in a relatively short period of time. I'm excited at the prospects that the 2013 season holds, especially with Gatekeeper.

I don't think anyone rode WildCat in 2012. ;)

It did pass inspection so the crew or management could of rode it.

Out of curiosity, what does everyone think about attendance at Cedar Point this year? I heard from an seasonal employee that it was the lowest attendance in twenty years. This source isn't really an "official" source, so this could be hog-wash.

I'm kind of shocked if this is true. The weather was beautiful all summer. Does having a five year roller coaster drought really affect attendance that much? Or is there something else to blame?

Maverick00's avatar

I highly doubt that. I think the attendance this year was the best in recent years. I think it'll defiantly rank above Kings Island which they tied last year.

Every time I went this year (10+ times) it was dead. Also it rained a lot of weekends during Halloweekends so I can believe it took a hit.

Everytime I went it was dead too. I guess I just feel like its higher because everything relating to the company seems to have increased.

I'd hardly call the weather "beautiful" this summer. Large parts of the Midwest were hit with record heat and drought. Then Halloweekends rolled around and I don't believe they ever had one that was a completely nice, ideal-weather weekend. I'm sure the attendance was down, though I would doubt it was that drastic.

Record heat is awesome for being outdoors. At least record heat in that part of the country.

If attendance is down I hope they don't try to blame the weather.

well, seeing how this is the third year in a row for record breaking performance, I'd say attendance isn't much of an issue.

Attendance seems to be comparable to last year across all parks. Revenue seems to have increased.

"Total revenues through the third quarter, on a same-week basis, increased across the majority of our parks, led by Canada's Wonderland and Cedar Point," continued Ouimet.
