Hi Jodi! Since you're new to GTTP, I'll just point out that there's a great search function on this site that you can use to look up anything that you're interested in... A lot of new folks ask the same questions ^_^ so there is a wealth of information waiting for you to discover since a lot of what you're probably wondering about has already been discussed. You can read back on this site for hours; it's a lot of fun. Click here for some answers about stuff to bring. Of course, don't be afraid to ask questions in the topics that you're interested in; we're all here to help!

Lee I am so glad you are here to be a kind and gentle soul for the new-person questions. I was there once, and I certainly appreciated it! How nice! :) It's a good change from "F*** YOU! THAT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED A MILLION TIMES, YOU A******!" That kind of talk doesn't give CPers a good look. ;) Hehe.

Phoebe: I have tasted my own medicine, and it is BITTER!

i totally got by just great last year not bringing a fan, tv, or fridge, or a stereo.

basically all i brought were clothes, bedding, and a few pictures.

Don't forget an alarm clock tho! i made that mistake and earned a few points my first week.

If you trust your roomies then having a TV/XBox/laptop/whatever is really nice for those nights when you just want to chill out instead of going out.

Another thing I'm telling my friend to bring with him is a cell phone with a good plan. Since we're in New York, the long distance charges are nasty, and a phone with free nights/weekends is definitely a great thing to have to keep in touch with your friends and family back home. There's also a lot of times when you just can't get through on the phone because all of the phones in the dorms go through one spot and it's bottlenecked. You can sit and dial for a half hour and not get through. So once again, it's a really nice thing to have.
