I want to say it was pulled in the early 90's. I think they did it more to add parking spaces more than anything else. So many parks handle parking trams so efficiently I just can't imagine why the Point can't figure it out.

Just be glad that you don't absolutely need a parking tram at CP. I was at another park this summer where the parking facility is adjacent to the park, but there is no way to get there on foot from the park gate without walking about a mile and a half just to get from the park to the parking facility. This particular park did such a lousy job of providing tram service that they nearly had a riot break out at the tram stop adjacent to the park. I had a term for it but that term is not broadcastable.
I was particularly surprised at which park it was that did such a lousy job, to be honest with you.......!
I'm all for eliminating the separate parking fee and rolling it into the admission charge. Doesn't anybody know anymore what is the most powerful word in advertising?

*Free*!!!!
I don't know, I'd hate to shell out a whole 50 bucks for a ticket. 40 seems alot more reasonable. The parking cost is easily dealt with if your going with a group of friends. Everybody pitches in a couple dollars and you're set.

They should have kept the trams and bulldozed Cedars! :)

Come on Dave... call out the park! :)

Either I'm really slow at noticing this or it hasn't been mentioned yet, but according to CP.com the price of the pass will go up to $70 after November 15.
From the FAQ page:
What about Parking Passes?
A Cedar Point Parking Pass will be $50 if purchased along with any other Season, Maxx or Maxx Plus Pass certificate by November 15th, 2006. After that, they will be $70.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
You really want me to tell you which park I thought could best be described as a logistical pyhfgre-shpx?
Okay, I will.
Believe it or not, it was Disneyland.

I was there in January for two days, a weekend day and a week day. Both times, the wait times for trams were very tolerable. I'll tell you where I had a horrible wait for trams last summer: Hershey. Kid you not. Must have stood for twenty minutes before they finally got to our stop. Probably should have just walked.

I can believe that. The amount of infrastructure and whatnot is simply insanely mind-boggling. And I don't know much about it, just a little more than your average coaster enthusiast, mainly because I enjoy digging for information.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
Disneyland has managed to shoehorn an incredible amount of stuff in a not-very-large space with the second gate and the Downtown Disney area, and guest flow in and out was probably the sacrificial lamb. Even with that, the integration of the parking structure with I-5 is pretty slick, and when we went (admittedly during a low season a couple of years ago) the tram service was just fine.
I thing the tram at CP was pulled before the 90's...maybe late 80's? I remember when I took my son for the first time in 1990, the tram no longer ran.

When we visited, their handling of parking was beyond simple incompetence. Starting with the lack of any legible signs on Harbor Blvd, then the complete absence of signs indicating what the rate is, then their insistence on collecting parking tolls from the wrong side of the vehicle (at both collection points), then shunting traffic through the blocked off parking lot and onto the street without any indication of how to actually get to the parking garage. Once in the garage (directed of course to the corner diametrically opposite the tram stop) there is no footpath of any kind to get to the escalator. Tram service from the garage to the park was OK, but from the park to the garage after closing was more sheer incompetence, much of which could have been avoided if they had someone directing the trams to actually pick people up at both stops on a more-or-less even basis. Another working tram at closing time would have helped a lot as well.
Their infrastructure is impressive, but the day we visited was almost totally non-functional. And as if the madness of running three consecutive spectacular nighttime shows inside the park isn't bad enough, the antics of the Flashlight Gestapo were, at times, beyond bizzarre.....
