The train is off the lift

One whole train or just one car on Magnum? 2300 pounds for the whole for the whole train seems a little small, but the it is fiberglass.

MF cars are heavy because of the heavy undercarriage, the stainless steel body, the large road wheels, etc. It all adds up. There are big steel plates welded to the cars' undersides...seen here:

[edit] link didn't work so if you want to see it, you'll have to do it manually...oh no! that means clicking 3 links instead of one! :)

Go to the gallery, then go to the MF section. Scroll down to the "3/10/00" tour, and it's the 2nd link marked "undercarriage" [/edit]

The whole train weighs 28 tons. If I took an educated guess, each car (not including the lead car) is roughly 3 tons, while the lead car is about 4 tons. The added lenght, and number of wheels on the lead car make it substantially heavier than the others.

By comparison, a 6-car, two-bench (4 seats/car, for 24/train) wooden train weighs around 4 tons.
A Raptor train weighs 8-tons !!!!

I assume Mantis trains weigh more because of more apparatus, as well as a front car without seats...?
