The Next Thing in Coasters

Last night it came to me what the next big coaster innovation will be: Flying Dive Machines.

Cross Tatsu with Sheikra (Both of which happen to be B&Ms) and you've got it. Can you imagine taking the dive in the "Lie" position? You'd be dropping head first, upside down! That'd be intense to say the least. And then of course you could toss in all of the usual flying coaster goodies.

I say we'll see one in the next 3 years...

That would have to be one of the most uncomfortable things ever while waiting for the drop though.

And I can't imagine that the pull out of the 90 degree drop would be very pleasant...

Flying coasters suck. Their appeal is too narrow. I doubt very many will ever be built going forward.

It looks like flying coasters are the next stand-up. Dead.

Dive machines are looking more interesting and I can't help but look at Furius Baco with it's seats on the outside of the track.

I wouldn't mind seeing more coasters similar to X at Magic Mountain. Not sure exactly the "type name" but I believe its called a 4d? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. And its reliability issues are why more parks haven't put one in. Its a cool concept though.

Right now, I'm personally a fan of the Eurofighter design, especially after riding Mystery Mine. That was a fun coaster.

X-Flight was cool at Geauga Lake, I will miss that this year. But I would ride Dominator over that any day. X-Flight was not a very comfortable ride if you rode it 3 or more times (felt the pain the next day).

Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast

Im not a big fan of flying coasters myself.

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

Top 5--- 1. Maverick- 2. Millennium 3. Magnum 4. TTD 5. Gemini

Cavs- 2007 Eastern Conference Champions!.-

Listen to the CoasterBuzz Podcast this week. Richard just rode the X clone in Japan, and says it too sucks.

Wow, surprised the hear that it "sucks". Can't wait to hear the report.

Who knows what the next "big thing" will be (I don't), but think the wingwalker concept is very interesting. I still think Maverick would be even better with that train configuration.

I don't, because already the trip reports indicate that it's prone to the same problem as the Arrow 4D, with a ton of vibration on the outside seats.

I think the "next biggest thing" for CP should be a new flume. As I stated in another thread, this time make it a flume and dark ride combination. The new attraction can feature great special effects with a storyline maybe involving Ohio History.

^ - and in 10 years the state flag will be unravelling, the Toldeo War scene will make it look like Michigan "won" and the area about Columbus will be a black-light mecca.

No Thanks, I'd rather they not try to do the theming thing EVER again.

^^Something like this might do the trick: http://www.vegas.com/attractions/outside_lasvegas/adventurecanyon.html

I didn't get to ride it when I was in Vegas but it looked like an interesting idea combining a log flume and elements of a dark ride.

I don't think we'd ever see something like that at Cedar Point though. They would actually have to maintain the shooting aspects of the ride.

A log flume and dark ride? Can anyone say,"Splash Mountain?"

While we're talking about offshoots of 4th dimension coasters, take a look at this wierd incarnation, Kirnu at Linnanmaki: http://www.rcdb.com/ig3613.htm?picture=1

Oh, I didn't see the laser guns at first, so I guess it's "Buzz Lightyear's Log-Blasters"

^^ I do believe you have found a suitable ride to go in place of Demon Drop ;)

... But thats another topic.

But on this topic, Buzz Lightyear's Space Spin thing, came to mind when I went to that link, because of the shooting. You would just have to find a way to make it up to Cedar Points thrill standards, and keep the theming working. *** Edited 6/7/2007 1:28:29 AM UTC by cedarpoint24/7***

Spinning coasters are also making it big right now. Can anybody say goodbye to the Aquatic Stadium and Peanuts Playground?
