The Mysterious Concrete Columns

Jeff's avatar
Why do you suppose one would build a series of 8-foot tall concrete columns around the rear of the Coliseum building? Those closest to Kiddy Kingdom have hinges. The others go in to the playground and right up next to Schwabinchen.

Hmmm... I wonder what those could be for?

Immoveable-as in poured concrete? or columns place there?

Yes, they are securely anchored in the ground. Before anyone starts thinking they're footers, they're too narrow and more fence-like if you ask me.

Part of a theme possibly? The first thing I thought about when they had COLISEUM and concrete COLUMNS, I thought about a Roman theme, but that's too far fetched.
I noticed those before. I thought that maybe they were going to put a gate on the columns over by the tool shed.

Oh the fun is jsut begining!!!!

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?" (as stated by my best-friends about CP)
I saw those last time I was at the park by Swabinchen (sp?). Didn't think anything of them, and figured that they were always there.

I noticed them on Opening Day. I thought that they were going to close-off the sidewalk area behind Schwabinchen...sort of like how they closed off the old alleyway area by the CP police station. Say, Jeff, do you know something we don't about these posts? Hmmm.
probably....

are these columns new? or have they always been there?

Well, I don't think they would be pointed out if they weren't there. Jeff, you are a crazy cat, leading all of us on. I'm guessing that they are walls so people don't get back to the (typing gradually getting faster, which should be spoken for optimal effect)real construction area for GHOSTRIDER!!!!!!!! Wahohohoooooo!!!

Once again, the utter and total craziness of Cayl has been resurrected.

new MF photos
I was just at CP yesterday and did not notice the columns, but that area is prime for development. I took a good look at the area by Schwabinchen down to peanuts playground. You can fit a serious coaster in there, or plenty of new attractions. Looking forward to an announcement about 2001 soon...HOPEFULLY.
Jeff, do you have any idea of what they might be?

Where is the Coliseum, exactly? It doesn't show on the map.
Some signs pointing towards a boardwalk.

1. In 1997 the bumper boats where moved from there former location next to Kiddy Kingdom and Schwambinchen.

2. In 1998 the beach house was razed. The Bumper Boats where still shown in the old location on the guide map.

Oceania and the Aquarium where closed and significantly altered. Disaster Transport's second queue room was also closed and significantly altered temporarily.

3. In 1999 Barenstein Bear Country was transformed into Peanuts Playground and despite the addition of the bating cage, many props where taken out or razed.

Also in 1999 the indoor portion of Bear Country was turned into the Snoopy Boutique and a mesh fence was built on the beach near the North Coast Parasail.

4. (So far) In 2000 several arcade games where moved to new locations (in the building) and several gaming machines where removed.

Stadium Games closed.

Giant Wheel was relocated to it's current location.

A small permanent queue was built at the entrance of Disaster Transport. Some Halloween props where also moved to the lot behind the coasters finale "S" bend.

Several cement columns where erected near the rear of the Coliseum.

The "alley" to the CP Security station was closed.

"Board" style cement patterns where put in by the Giant Wheel.

Some Television screens on Oceania where removed.

The Iron Fence behind Disaster Transport was re painted and extended to behind Disaster Transport and Stadium Games.

And finally two more Peanuts theme stores where built housing the same products as the Boutique.

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!

The Coliseum *is* on the map. It's the *huge* building with all the domes on top, wiht the large arcade on the lower level.

Magnum Is Sinking!:
Stadium Games was open the last time I was in the park (6/24); in fact we were discussing among ourselves that they really should have left water in the tanks in an effort to keep the building cool (water has a huge heat capacity, which is why that aquarium was always the coolest spot on the peninsula).

--Dave Althoff, Jr., who needs to go look at the columns...
What are you talking about the "alley" by the CP Police station was closed. That's an employee break area inside of there. That's been like that for years.

Also they moved to entrance to DT for the a Halloweekend attraction.
