Some of you really need to watch some behind the scenes footage once in awhile..to cite the fact that there are no mountains near CP does not even remotely come close to a valid point as to why they couldn't film The Shining there...furthermore, simply because "it wasn't in the book" does not mean the screenplay can't be different..go watch Lord of the Rings, 1408, any of the Jason Bourne films..etc.And yes, the crew for the movie "The Shining" did scout the Breakers Hotel at one point for possible consideration due to its interior layout. Don't forget that the Breakers has been remodeled over the past few years, the original interior at the time the Shining was made would actually have fit some of the scenes.
Thousands of locations for thousands of films are scouted all the time, just because it doesn't make cookie-cutter sense to film a scene in a particular location does not automatically void it.
Really? I did not know that. That's pretty cool. I stayed at the oringal one they wanted to film it at, The Stanley in Colorado. Where S. King wrote most of the book. They later filmed a new Shining for TV there and the hotel scene in Dumb and Dumber.
That's pretty cool that they also consider the Breakers for the original movie.
The Breakers is a fasicnating hotel, it ranks up there with the Grand Hotel that is on Mackinac Island. The Grand Hotel was used for Somewhere in time with Christoper Reeves. There is an elegance to the Breakers Rotunda even with all the people sitting there on their laptops.
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

Here is my movie pitch. It's love story based at cedar point. We start in the golden era of the breakers before the rides were there, the lovers are star crossed, they get seperated, but they are soulmates, old age takes them and after they are reborn, they rediscover each other on the same sandy beach of the breakers present day. We follow them reconnecting with each other on their vactation at the park. Would make an excellent chick flick. Ok if it gets made now, I hope I get some royalites and credit, heck I could even script it. I could make it a heart breaker which could have more standing value than a happy ending. Happy ending ares soo cliche. What do you think lol.
Interesting, but sounds like a re-write of 'Made in Heaven' or 'Somewhere in Time'

Kubrick had a particular look in mind for the Overlook to have. The interiors (which were sets) were based on the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park because of it's Native American designs and generally because it is what he imagined a hotel in the mountains of Colorado should look like. I know the Breakers has been remodeled over the years, but even back in 1979/80 when The Shining was filmed, the Breakers never had any Native American touches, so again, I may be wrong but all this just sounds like rumors to me.

That's what hollywood is good for recycling old story lines. I am suprised that havent remade the 70's rollercoaster movie where the guy was placing bombs on coasters.

I think that a movie about teens working at an amusement park would be pretty good... I mean it'd have to have a story, but I have heard people say that workin at the point, or any amusement park for that matter, has been the best time of their lives...
^ That movie comes out this spring.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Ralph Wiggum what is that movie called? Why not make a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop and call it Paul Blart: Park Security. Imagine the stories that could come out of that.

The movie is Adventureland. I linked to it on the 1st page. Read the whole thread and you will find it.
This movie actually looks good, unlike Mall Cop. It has a good cast lineup and appears to be funny. I'm excited for its release.
I think Mall Cop looks hillarious!
^^ Like he could find people in Disaster Transport doing stuff they shouldn't. ;)
Let's Get Weird.
Is DT really that bad with all this "what people shouldn't be doing" stuff? It seems that like almost everyday, something happens in the building according to your stories.
By the way, name just one area where people were seen doing things si I know you're not making it all up!.....
Once while in line for disater transport there was this guy with5 noses rings smoking in line and security busted him. We cheered. That is the only bad thing i seen happen in DT. Besides the lame haunted house lmao.

Yeah, that really ticks me off when people with nose rings smoke in line . . .

The best part of the Adventureland movie was that that was EXACTLY how the Kennywood employees acted.
Someone from the University of Michigan did some film project at Cedar Point this summer. I got an email about a free trip to cedar point and some exclusive rider time on Mantis. Not sure if it ever happened or not.
I'm researching original source information for the scouting stuff...and I don't see it as being called out at all..
I am aware of the Native American themes, again, the hotel does carry the space and layout that could be used for on-location stuff...I think in the end, for the most accurate film adaption, they went with sets, or altered interiors so as to keep the vision as close to the story as possible..
Unfortunately, this is not so much the case anymore with current book to film adaptions, some hit it right on, and others are so twisted its hard to see the original source material..

Was it closer to Halloweekends? There was a Friday during weekends where a film crew was shooting some indie film at Mantis. It was enough to get me to leave the office so I am not sure of any specifics.
