I remember that there was suppose to be a movie filmed either the year top thrill was opened or the year after at Cedar point. It was suppose to be some "b" movie involving aliens. Does anyone know what came of this movie?

Thank you very much Mr. Wiggum.

It'd be cool if a cool, funny movie could be filmed there at the park instead of this crap.

I don't think a movie could "fit" into the park that well. Take a look at Adventureland. It looks good in the setting its in at Kennywood. I just don't see the movie looking as good if it were filmed at Cedar Point, even if the time period in the film was 'present time'.
It really was a pretty awful movie. My friends and I made a movie in college with better production value than that thing had.

Speaking of movies dose any one know when they show the Golden Ticket awards on TV? Or any other Amusement Park / Theme Park shows. I know they normally show them in the off season....

I don't know that the Golden Ticket award presentation has EVER been shown on TV.
I know some of it is taped, if only for posterity, but I've never heard of it being put together to run on TV.
As for theme park shows, keep an eye on the travel channel and discovery, they usually have a few running here and there.

I've read on a fan site for The Shining that the hotel was supposed to be Hotel Breakers. I'm not too sure about the validity of this claim though...
Yeah, from what I've heard, that's true. They wanted to film it at Breakers but they also wanted to film some type of car accident on the causeway and CP wouldn't agree to it. At least that's what I read on the matter.
I thought Edge of 17 was well laid out as a movie. Just because it didn't appeal to a large demographic didn't make it "crap" as stated above. The same could not be said of close encounters however. That was just pure B grade celluloid fantasy.
I've read that very same thing, not sure if was on this site or another, but I am pretty sure it proves to be a rumor. First off, why would Stanley Kubrick choose the Breakers as a stand-in for the Overlook Hotel? There are no mountains anywhere in the area, as The Shining takes place at a hotel in the mountains of Colorado. The movie was filmed on soundstages in London, and only a few exterior shots were done at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon. Kubrick had no intention of NOT using soundstages, so that conflicts with any idea that the Breakers would have been used JUST for interior scenes. Also, there is no 'car crash' scene in the book OR the film, so why would they want to film a car crash scene on the causeway? There would be water on both sides, and of course, no mountains in the background, so that doesn't even make sense.

Yeah, I don't believe the Shining thing either. Doesn't make sense to me. THat alien movie looks pretty bad, don't think I will be in a rush to see it.
Some of you really need to watch some behind the scenes footage once in awhile..to cite the fact that there are no mountains near CP does not even remotely come close to a valid point as to why they couldn't film The Shining there...furthermore, simply because "it wasn't in the book" does not mean the screenplay can't be different..go watch Lord of the Rings, 1408, any of the Jason Bourne films..etc.
And yes, the crew for the movie "The Shining" did scout the Breakers Hotel at one point for possible consideration due to its interior layout. Don't forget that the Breakers has been remodeled over the past few years, the original interior at the time the Shining was made would actually have fit some of the scenes.
Thousands of locations for thousands of films are scouted all the time, just because it doesn't make cookie-cutter sense to film a scene in a particular location does not automatically void it.

Here is my movie pitch. It's love story based at cedar point. We start in the golden era of the breakers before the rides were there, the lovers are star crossed, they get seperated, but they are soulmates, old age takes them and after they are reborn, they rediscover each other on the same sandy beach of the breakers present day. We follow them reconnecting with each other on their vactation at the park. Would make an excellent chick flick. Ok if it gets made now, I hope I get some royalites and credit, heck I could even script it. I could make it a heart breaker which could have more standing value than a happy ending. Happy ending ares soo cliche. What do you think lol.

I am not saything they didn't scout it. But what I have read, or maybe I misunderstood, was that they had planned on shooting it at Breakers but CP wasn't down with a car crash scene on the causway. For the life of me I don't remember a car crash scene but it's been a while sience I have seen the movie or it could have hit the editing room floor. I just don't see the hotel used in the film comparable to the Breakers. Your right, they do scout hundreds of places for a movie, I just doubt it was high on the list. Could be wrong though. How do you find these movie facts out? Just courious, not calling you out or anything.
