I went in for the interview on saturday with a couple of my friends. My interviewer seemed to have liked me after the interview. He said he would love to continue the processing and that he would give me a call on Monday. The call never came. So i was just wondering what i should do? He really tricked me saying he was interested then not calling because my one friend was called back already and is now hired. Also, I saw him mark an X next to my name on the sheet with a list of the names he was hiring, what does that mean?
Any serious help is appreciated.
Dang. I posted a great response and the topic got moved before I hit reply.
This is all based on my experience way back but, knowing Cedar Point, I suspect it hasn't changed all that much.
You likely were asked to give your top three choices of work assignments when you interviewed. Your department of first choice (let's say Rides for the sake of argument) has the right to review your application first. Assuming your summer is wide open and you can stay late into the fall you are going to get hired unless you have three noses or an axe sticking out of your head.
If you have three noses or an axe sticking out of your head...but you still are available all summer and the fall then you will likely get a job offer from any of the other departments.
If your availability is limited then you might have a harder time of it. If rides didn't like your available dates (and they probably can be more picky than any of the other departments) then your second choice department gets to take a stab at you. This process continues until you end up in the Foods office...and then they are another hard to staff department will likely offer than a job.
The question you may find yourself faced with is if you want to work there so much that you are willing to accept a position somewhere other than your first choice.
A high percentage of candidates want to work in Rides...and Rides can't hire everyone. I've shared with others that I've worked just about every type of amusement park job short of lifeguarding and my experience was that Rides (coasters and so forth) was somewhat mundane, repetitive and not really as fun as some of the other jobs. Merchandise and games are both pretty good departments to work for. Foods isn't as bad as you might expect and the days go pretty fast there. My buddy had a blast doing Cusotidal at Disney while I was tied down to a ride all day, every day.
Of course, Cedar Point has the hotels and jobs in reservations, front desk or bellhops are pretty fun too. Housekeeping isn't as bad as you might think and their schedules are pretty good...working mostly day shifts and having the nights free (not bad considering the social side of working at the Point).
If you have good availability, have flexibility about your work assignment, and can communicate over an 8th grade level then chances are you are going to get a job offer. Heck, the first requirement will likely be overlooked if you have good availability and are flexible about the position.
Be patient. You interviewed 3 days ago.
And I'll add: It used to be that you could call the HR office and they could tell you what department was reviewing your application at any given time. So, if you haven't heard anything in a week then I'd give them a call and just ask. There is always that outside chance of human error or a computer glitch that might get your application hung up.
