The Greatest Trip That Could Ever Be! Jul. 2,3,4

Ok, I dont normally post trip reports but since this trip went better than any other time I decided I'd share it with everyone.

Wed. July 2nd- I arrived at Cedar Point with my family at around 4. By the time we checked in and unpacked the car it was 6. I got in the park and hit Wicked Twister right away(5 minute wait) then headed over to raptor (walk on). After that I walked over to demon drop, got off, and wasted all the quarters that I had found behind Demon Drop's seat on the zippo machine in the arcade (god those things are addicting!). After that I went back to the hotel room and just sat around for a while. About 9:45, I headed back into the park and dedicated the last hour of the park to riding magnum as many times as possible. I ended up hitting it 15 times in an hour and 5 minutes.

Thurs. July 3rd-I woke up around 8, ate breakfast and got ready for the day ahead and was out the door by 8:50. I entered the park with my Joe Cool and immediately went to Millie. That had a 20 minute wait and I got the back seat. After that I went to get the first ride of the day on Magnum and was intertaned while I waited by some random guy who took a suntan lotion bottle and pretended it was a microphone and interviewed random people in line. After that, I went to the back and rode Gemini and Mean Streak with no problem, then went to my favorite game (Bank-A-Ball) and won the new prizes to add to my collection. It was starting to get hot by that time so I went back to the room to enjoy the air conditioning. I ended up watching a movie on showtime and didnt go back into the park until 4:30, and just walked around forever in the park. After dinner at Fridays, I rode raptor and demon drop again, and then was heading towards magnum around 9, when I noticed people standing by Dragster. When I got closer i noticed that they were trying to test it so I stayed there. I talked to a fellow GTTP'er (Tony) for a while and then sat down in the bleachers and watched all the people leave the park. Thursday wasnt the best of days, but since im up there enough, it didnt matter.

FRIDAY(the best day of my life)July 4th-

I woke up at 7 and got ready right away because I hoped they had got Dragster working and I was gonna beat everyone else to it. I got down to the gates at about 8:15 and waited.... and waited..... and waited. No sign of dragster running at all. When the gates opened, I ran right away to the entrance(only 15 people had beat me there) and I sat down. I heard people talking about it should open any time so I figured I was in luck because I'd make it on the first train of the day.

--------10 hours, a thunderstorm, $15 worth of water, and a $3 deck of millie cards later---------

Its now 7:15 pm. I'm still in line for Dragster. I've been in line for 10+ hours but I'm now the first person in line. They've been testing for about 20 minutes now and every one's making it over. Eventually, employees show up down at the entrance and let me in. All of a sudden, a massive crowd of at least a few thousand people have completely shut off the midway from magnum to power tower and are all cheering as I lead the parade through the line. When I get to the station all the workers smile at me (monty and Sandor were there and i shook their hands!) and everyone in line up by the station(the line went to the skyride) cheered as I sat down. Me and the friend(s) I had made in line started a clap and eventually the whole station(including some of the crew) and the people outside the staion had started in on it. All of a sudden it seemed like everything stopped and you heard the person in the control booth say "Clear" and as the blue train pulled out of the station, every person that I could see stood up and threw their hands up in the air and just started screaming. I saw at least 50 people video taping it. I felt like some kind of celebrity. Everyone cheered as we pulled up to the launched and cheered until we took off and my friend on the ground (too afriad to ride) said when we took off everything got dead silent until we got to the top. We went over real slow so I looked down at the crowd of people and I could see as we were coming over the other side everyone threw their hands up in the air and started cheering again. When i got off everyone that could reach me or anybody on the train wanted to shake our hands (im still not sure why though) I bought the picture, then went to the front to get pizza (since i hadnt eaten all day), met up with my parents and told them about the ride. They decided that it looked like it was going to rain so they didnt feel like staying for the fireworks so we headed back towards the car. As we were walking past Dragster I stopped at the entrance to say hi to the employees I had talked to for over an hour and when I turned around, Tony was just walking up so I talked to him for a quick second then headed to the car for the ride home. Though i didnt get to watch the fireworks, i hope they were good. I had had a little too much sun today so i was ready to just drop when I sat down in the car. Wednesday and Thursday couldve been a little better, but Friday definately made up for it. I had a BLAST!

"Hi I'm Kevin Nealon and I have a computer virus."

I'm VERY jealous of you!

My family drove 8 hours from New Jersey and were at the CP from June 29-July 2.

My parents are *CONSIDERING* going back August 24th for two nights with the package just to ride TTD!

Ugh I wish I was you.

Gerg,

It was nice to meet you and be able to put a face with a name. Too bad that you did not stay for the fireworks last night. They were really good and right after I finished talking to you on Friday, I ran into a few other GTTP'ers that I would have introduced you to. I'm glad that you had such a great trip and got to ride Dragster.!

Gerg, that is one awesome story. I bet that wait all day was worth that ride/ experience. A ride on Dragster doesn't get any better than that! I wish I was there to see the giant crowd's reaction!!!

i can't imagine that! 10 hours! you have a ton of will power to stay for that long. good thing it opened, that would've been bad if you waited all day and didn't get to go on it. what all did you do to kill the time? i would like some tips for when i wait in the humongous dragster line.
Gerg, it was also nice to meet you. I was one of the four Texans in line right behind you. We were in the back row of the first train, what a wonderful experience and i met a great bunch of people throughout the day. all i can say is why didnt you come back at 1130 for the last ride meet up? didnt miss much. we waited for about 2 hours and they closed it down and gave us all free bording passes. all i can say is that it was definately worth it!

Cedar Point (first time) - July 4th and 5th

Johnz, I talked to a few people (as you can see with Texas Mike) and my cell phone (snake, my high score is like 500) and a $3 deck of millennium force cards held me over for most of the time.

Texas Mike, i didnt come back because of my family that decided they had had enough of the park (though since all i did was sit around, I certainly hadn't!) I wish i couldve come back but it seems like a few other people didnt show up either. I sure wouldve liked those boarding passes though! Next time you come up let me know and we'll meet up somewhere again!

I have pictures of the group and some of the people that were there (except they arent that good of a perspective) but i dont know where to put them because they are large pictures and dont fit anywhere. If you really want them i guess you can e-mail me(look in profile).

My family would think I was more nuts than I am if I waited 10 hours in line for a ride to open.

That was an experience to last a lifetime, though.

Wow, great story! I thought the person I saw at TTD could have been Sandor Kernacs, but I never met him, so I wasn't sure. Seems like a very hands on type of guy, while I was watching he walked down the cat walk at the launch area and checked some stuff, helping out a CP technician.

I really wish them the best to get this ride working. I almost feel worse for what the people at CP and Intamin are going through than I do for not being able to ride yet!

Hmmmm, lets do some math here, according to my manual each train travels the circuit 17 times per hour. So unless you had a whole bunch of exit passes, or snaked a few rerides there is no way possible that you can do 15 laps in 65 minutes. The most I have done in one hour is 9, and that is RUNNING all the way around, running through the queue and getting in nearly every train right before it was dispatched. This was BEFORE the air gates were installed making it even harder to get more rides in per hour.

Besides that, great TR, glad to hear you got on Dragster after waiting that long.

I can back this up - Last year I was able to only get in 9 Magnum rides in about 70 minutes, and I ran around after each ride and got right back on. Boy that was a lot of work and fun :)
Great story, Greg. I hope my trip is as good.

Gerg could of rode Magnum 15 times in 1 1/4 hours because one time I rode Magnum 3 times in 6 minutes.

Wow! You rode Magnum 3 times in 6 minutes??? Very impressive!! That's FAST! That's like Santa Claus fast (as Santa would have to travel faster than the speed of light in order to stop at each residence, drop off the presents, eat the cookies, etc...). I'm jealous b/c I have not been able to ride the Magnum 3 times in 6 minutes. I sure wish I had that ability last Sunday, b/c instead of having a mere 72 rides on Magnum (which, using your math, would translate into a "bad" day), I would have had---perhaps an "okay" day---with 336 (and that takes the 2 hour rain delay into consideration).

------------------
2003 stats: (as of 7/28/03)
Magnum - 1,366
Everything else - 57

Well, the ride time is around two minutes, so you must of went on a day when the crew gave re-rides, had one train operation, and let the train roll through the station. Or can you just run really fast? :)
