The Golden Nametag

Here's a question for anyone who works in HR or has a say in it, why do nametags cost $25 to replace? I honestly don't think they cost that much to make, and talking to people who work at other amusement areas (parks, zoos, etc.) there ID's are frequently free the first time they need to be replaced.

Another question which I have is why are nametags required to be turned in at the end of the year? Since the park claims that every name is deleted off the computer every time an employee is processed out, why not just let the employee keep the ID as a memento?

Because Cedar Point is a For-Profit organization!
Drew, here is an answer to part 2. Because, the nametags have very small changes from year to year, with the exception of between 2001 and 2002 and I suppose when they changed over from the pin ons to the current clip on ID Card, Badge.Although the majority of locations have swiping access, to enter the areas IE Housing, emlpoyee gates, entrance gates. There are some locations where swiping is still not necessary and a flashing of your id is suffiecient for entry. So theoretically if CP does not take your ID at the end of your contract, you can come back the next year and get free ( now you didn't think I would actually name off those places.)

Such is the same reason why if you leave CP before the season is over and you don't return your parking sticker, you will be charged for it. The charge is the same price as a season parking pass. Even on the last weekend.

i thought it was only 15$

Also, to add to the getting in the park for free at non swipe entrances... You're more likely to look extra hard for that 'lost' ID if you're gonna have to pay for it. If it was only a buck or so to replace... i would probably go thru 10 a year.

Because they don't want you to loose them.

Plus. think of all the employee events. they just look at our id to let us in. so if people quit and got to keep their id's then they might try to enter the employee events too!

I can understand them not wanting people to go through 10 IDS/year, but why not make the first one free and charge all those after. I guess the answer I'm getting is that security needs to be improved in certain areas of the park. The employee entrance under Blue Streak comes to mind.

Don't be surprised if that changes...

Chris....seriously...you need to stop making suggestions for changes in the park. lol. But on the topic of IDs I don't think you pay for the first ID you are issued...but you have to pay for replacement ones or temperary ones...which are a lot cheaper.

That's true; the first ID your receive from HR is free. It's only if you lose it that you have to pay for a new one. If I remember correctly, the fee for a temporary ID is less than for a replacement one, and with a temporary ID you are given a handstamp which verifies that you are an employee of the park so that you will be allowed in through the park gates and into Employee Housing areas. This is because the temporary IDs do not have bar codes on the back (because of this, this also means you can't clock in and out correctly ^_~ ). The temporary ID is convenient if you just forgot your ID back at your room off-Point and need one for work for the day, but it should never take the place of a real ID if you have really lost yours.

The whole pay-for-lost-ID thing is an excellent idea; the HR staff want to make sure that people realize that their IDs are an important piece of property that should be taken care of. For me as a supervisor, it's quite annoying when an employee runs up just before the start of their shift without their ID, and has to go all the way from the front gate to HR and back so that they have a replacement and are allowed to work. They end up being late, and it wastes my time and their teammates' time. It's better if employees have extra incentive (ie monetary fines) to take care of the ID they have.

If you want a 'souvenier' nametag, but a $1 temp. You aren't required to turn those back in.

Perhaps losing your nametag once is not a big expense to the park but if 1,000 employees lost their nametags once that could be very expensive.

And, when you talk about cost, you are also talking about the staffing time involved with making nametags. Again, one person isn't going to cost a lot but you would be surprised how much time is spent making those nametags each season.

Bottom line: It is called a deterrent. It has you concerned, doesn't it?

Not really concerned. What really concerned was when I realized CP employees were the worst paid in the whole chain of parks. I hope this is something the park takes a serious look at in the future. I guess I'm a firm believer that since the park has been named best in the world, and since the employees help make the park, the pay should probably reflect that. Ok, down from my soap box...

Blah. CP pay is comparable to other jobs such as retail, food service, etc.

Cost of living is higher in those cities than it is in Sandusky and there is no housing.. or the housing that is arranged is not cheap...

maybe it is just me.. but cedar point isnt that low of pay to the other parks. in fact i got hired last year at 3 different parks. and they all paid the same as cedar point. but their housing was 50 dollars a week. and the food wasnt cheap. at one of the places they thoght giving the employees a 10% discount was good enough. but the food was so expenive so even with a 10% discount you were paying to much.

I'm happy with my CP pay. It's very sufficiently adequate. It depends on what you do with your money. Last summer I rented a $550/month apartment, paid all the bills bought a car, and still had planty of spending money each month left over.

Seriously as someone else mentioned the only reason the pay may be higher at other parks are the cost of living. Some states also have higher minumum wages to reflect the cost of living.

Key thing is "It's how you spend your money and not how you are paid...." Yes, that is a direct stab at a certain social hangout near CP.

CP has no reason to raise how much we are paid. Why would they do something like that, its not like they are hurting for employees. People come back year after year; they aren't going to raise our pay just because we're great employees.
