THE FORCE ISN'T GOING 92 MPH!

Everyone who rode MF today will tell you, IT WASN'T THE RIDE IT WAS LAST YEAR! I don't know what they did, or why they did it, but that coaster isn't going 92 mph. NOW, maybe they are doing some sortive testing, but I couldn't get an answer out of anyone. NOT EVEN BART KINZEL!!! Very unhappy.

Hmm...this is interesting and bad news. Do you have any more information that may help us, or has anyone rode it yet/seen it in full motion to comfirm this?
DT, it sounds like you had quite a bad experience this year so far, I saw your post on DT, are you sure your just not having a bad day?

I'm just wondering who Bart Kinzel is...

so how do you KNOW it's not going 92? coasters just don't lose speed over the winter...just curious as to how you know this for a fact.

wny would they do anything to their prize coaster? please let us know how you figure it's not going 92 or more.

He's correct, I'd think it's going 93 mph though, the advertised speed. Even if it wasn't going as fast as it has in the past, there's something called cold bearings. The parts on the trains are new, and they have to be broken in. The ride will get faster as the day and season go on. That's how it was it's two previous seasons...especially since it's a temperamental Intamin hyper/giga. With 2 very unfavorable posts, I'm beginning to think he's a troll.

I would like to know who Bart Kinzel is too.

ijust rode it three times today and it seemed to be running at full speed. the only differences i noticed was the absence of the yellow train and the fact that it was rideing very quietly the roar was absent but i take it that was due to the new berings. but either way it is still the greatest ride in the world.
Ok, first off, I saw Bart TWICE today, once while in line for MF, and the other time while I was eating @ JR's. YES HE DOES EXIST!! And second, my reasoning behind this is that you know how the lift used to speed up as you got closer to the top of the hill. Well, didn't do that when I rode on my 3 times. It didn't rocket you over the hill like last year. Now, I know that a lot of the parts on the trains are new, but still, I rode it at 10:45am, about 1:30, then about 3:15, and all the rides seemed the same, SLOW. Now I will give it a couple weeks before I start really complaining. And yes CoastFreak, not having too good of a day today.

I think the reason you sped up halfway up the lift was when three trains running, and from what I've read, only two were running. The lift did this for blocking purposes. Plus, did you have a radar gun on you? Maybe it was going 90, because personally, I can't tell two MPH difference heh

The reason I asked who Bart was is because I don't know of a Bart Kinzel. I know of a Richard Kinzel (President and CEO of Cedar Fair) but that's about it.

Beeman is right, the reason there wasn't a "speed up" today is because only two trains were running, and by the time the lift is activated, the other train is already in the unload station. When the train is in the unload station, the computer reads it as clear to go "full speed" up the lift. So today, it was going "full speed" the whole time.

I clocked Millie at 65-67 seconds which is pitiful, but remember its still early in the year and hasn't been broken in yet (normally its around 60-62 in midseason)

I noticed there were no white concave wheels on it, which may explain the no squeak.

According to a reliable source, there were metal wheels used today instead of the nylon....these also effect the speed of the ride....most of the problems are just early season things, it seemed as though they got goin with MF late this season....give it a few weeks...and then lets see what happens...

Yup, no nylon wheels today. I seem to remember some of them being on OD last year, and last year it squeeked with them.

Nylon wheels or not, gravity hasn't changed since last year. It's still doing 93 down the first hill, and anyone who tells you otherwise does not have a grip on fundamental physics.

Without the nylon wheels, certainly it's completing the circuit slower, but the first drop speed isn't going to change.

I don't doubt that some energy is being lost in the lateral shifting about caused by what I assume is worn guide wheel springs. It felt sloppy in the turns. I hope they replace them this year.

But overall, the ride still rocks. Now who is this Bart guy? ;)

There is a Bart Kinzel actually (Dick's son). He manages some of the restaurants at CP.

EDIT, I get it Jeff :) ;)

Wow...Bart Lives!!...Jeff...by sloppy do you mean like a little more rough on the turns...thats what i would assume with wearing springs.

They changed the wheels on the ride this year. The wheels have nylon/plastic-of-some-sort tires on them, as does every steel coaster. No steel coaster has wheels made only of metal. The formulation of this material is different in that it runs much smoother and quieter than the material used last year. When I rode it towards the end of the day, it seemed to have plenty of speed through the entire ride. The new tire formulation is probably softer then last year's, so it may very well run a little slower. The harder formulation last year was probably more heat resistant than the original wheels, and the shape spread the load over a larger area. Intamin probably did more research and came up with a softer formulation that was also heat resistant. From what I remember, the original tire material was also softer, and the ride sped up when they switched to the white wheels. The quieter operation may also make it seem like it has lost some speed. I'm not sure about the turns, seemed about the same to me, but if it has some added shifting, it's nice. The little added turbulence makes for a fun ride IMHO.
