The Bugs...

I always hear about people getting hit in the face by bugs when they are on Millennium Force.

I myself have never gotten the chance to ride MF but I will this summer...and.... was wondering if there are alot of bugs throughout the ride, and if it hurts getting hit by them. Are they just small bugs?

Some people have said that they keep their mouth closed throughout the entire ride so that they dont swallow any while going 93 mph.....seems like it would be an unpleasant thing...but what about the bugs hitting your eye at 93 mph? Has it ever happened before? and if so, what has happened to that person? Seems to me like it would hurt alot. This really made me think what would happen because I am going to be a first-time-rider this summer and I just wanted to clear this up.

Thanks

If you think bugs'll hurt... try raindrops. I call them, "Little diamonds from above."

But yes, the bugs taste icky, and if one gets in your eye, it stings.

As to the amount of bugs, it really depends on the time of year and the weather. Mid-summer, the place has several 'pockets' of bugs, whether you're on a ride, or near a light at night, or by a food stand, etc. You just deal with the fact they're around, and have fun anyway.

You know there's nothing good on TV when you're desperate enough to specifically look for infomercials.

Your right about the rain drops, they do hurt! A morning test ride in the pouring rain is not so much fun, but it is Millennium Force so that makes up for the differnce:)

I think I heard once on this site that someone was riding with their hands up and wacked a seagull. That must hurt at 93, I think he broke his wrist, not sure though.

Well my friend got hit twice in the chest by Sea Gulls, both in May. She didnt like test riding in the front seat so much after that:)

thanks for the info....i just think its kind of dangerous getting hit by something while you are going so fast....like.say what if your friend got hit in the face by a damn seagull instead of their wrist or chest? its possible right? im just kind of nervous cuz i dont know what to expect, me being a first time rider an' all.
You'll be so excited riding it for the first time you wont even notice the bugs.... a seagull on the other hand...you may. ;)

I personally have never had too big of a problem with bugs in my somewhere around 50 MF rides. I think it helps that the ride doesn't go through any heavily lighted areas at night. I couldn't tell you about the morning though because I've never ridden it before noon. Trust me though, the bugs will be the least thing on your mind when you're looking nearly straight down from 310, especially for the first time.

Enjoy your ride on the Big Bad Bug

Most of these bugs people are referring too are those darn canadian soldiers....they are everywhere.....every time I have went they are almost ever place you look. They dont bother me....I try not to step on them but sometimes its impossible there is so many. lol

At the turn of the Millenium......there were signs...
it is possible to get hit by a sea gull in the face. Fabio got hit by a goose while riding apollo's chariot, but it is very uncommon for something like this to happen

Your first ride on Millenium force is going to be the best ride ever i swalloed bugs i didnt even care lol they taste bad yes but oh well a nigh time ride is a must ...is it me or does it seem steeper in first cart at night??
thanks guys for the info. it really helps
If you walk down the exit ramp peeling bugs off of your shirt then you had a great ride.

There are two questions I hope you never have to ask:
1.Where am I going?
2.And why am I in this handbasket?

Yeah, MF is great, especially the first time. I took my friend on it in the POURING rain, like to the point where i just about got welts (it hurt), but my friend absolutley loved it. The bugs sting a little when you get hit in the face, but overall its not so bad. I remember the many occasions of peeling bugs off of my shirt, the signal of a GREAT ride. I cant wait for the bugs on TTD. haha

"What is it?"
"I heard it was the worlds largest revolving restauraunt"
"Oh Yeah, well I heard that they melted down wicked twister to make it"

I have never gotten bugs in my mouth on MF, which is cool. Of course, usually when I ride I keep my mouth shut or pull the hood on my sweatshirt so tight around my mouth that nothing could get in. Oddly enough, I have had the Muffleheads fly into my mouth on Iron Dragon...twice in the same ride! I thought that was kind of ironic... ;)

If your looking to avoid getting smacked in the face with one of these little critters, ride closer to the back of the train. The people in front of you act as a shield to bugs and you will rarely get him by them. I've ridden the force in the front once and got hit by two bugs, while the rest of the times (about 25) I have stuck relatively to the last 3 or 4 rows of the train and have only been hit by one bug.

Aww.....Florida! But That's America's Wang

The bugs are worst at night. I once rode MF in the back, and right after the 1st overbanked turn, I saw a bunch of feathers fly past the train. I'm not sure whether or not we actually hit something, but that's what I saw.

The big hill, the sheer drop, the incredible speed. Long live Millennium Force!

I've never been hit with a bug on MF other than tiny one that make white specs on your shirt. I've rode it in the front about 5 times.
Mmm.. I caught a big fat juicy one on my late-night, front-seat Raptor ride last Halloweekends. Caught it on the first drop, and couldn't get it out till mid-cobra roll. That didn't like, ruin the whole first half of the ride for me, or anything. ;)
