The "Boardwalk Project"

Just a thought here but how reliable do you really think the CP Boardwalk
project really is? Maybe it is to cover up of something bigger that we might
not have thought of yet. Naturally all signals are pointing to the Boardwalk
project A. The Giant Wheel be relocating, B. 2000 being the final season
for the aquatic arena. C. That area of the park is a ghost town and needs
major attention.

I find it hard to see a some sort of wooden coaster going there along with the
"Boardwalk" Even if the Peanut playground area is taken out, and Ocean Motion
and Schwabinchen are relocated I still can't see a wooden coaster going in the
front of the park.

I just think that the park is throwing us for a loop. Any thoughts.

Since I'm the one who brought you this rumor in the first place, you know, from the "high ranking official," (go way back in the news), I would say that there will be major development there, but it won't necessarily be a boardwalk theme.

But I stand by the fact that this WILL be Oceana's last year.

It is obvious that something is going to happen. I doubt that it is going to be an actual boardwalk with wood decking. Wood seems to be more up keep than CP probably would like to get involved with.

A boardwalk theme makes sense to me...it would blend in nicely with the boardwalk by Breakers (though not a true boardwalk). I agree with Dan, I don't see a wooden fitting in that area, unless DT is taken out ( I can only hope!). But CP would have to add another coaster to get the total up to 15 if that happened. Putting a wooden and something like a Wild Mouse would accomplish this and be fairly cheap.

My one hesitation about the boardwalk project is if they do go through with it, DT will be an eye-soar for that area.
the rumor is from screamscape that for the year 2001 there will be a boardwalk and DT will be removed (Great) they will also put in a Arrow mad mouse. then for 2002 a CCI wooden coaster will go in. This is all rumor of course.
I think they should just get new trains for DT, take of that shell and make the trains able to accommodate smaller riders. They then can dub it as a family coaster. Or put the originale trains on it. Like Mean Streak it is all in the trains. I hope they don't ditch this ride. It is the tallest bobsled. I have a problem with this rummor becouse it has a reasonably long line.

Likes her coasters like her men, fast and furious!
I have to agree with net that if they do move forward with some sort of re-development of the Space Spiral midway, that DT would be a sort of eye-sore.

It would be nice to see additions like a woodie and a mad mouse coaster, but the area (and the park for that matter) is in definit need of a dark ride! Also, I wonder if they capitalize on that area, will they also give access to the beach? Since they removed the bathhouse a few years ago, there has not been any access to the beach, unless you went to the hotel.

Actually, you can use the beach any time. If you exit at the resort gate you can use the Soak City showers and restrooms to change. They are outside of the water park gates.

Boardwalk, or at least updates to that side of the park, seems like it will happen. But as usual, Cp will have a surprise or two. I heard Knotts is getting a boardwalk, or at least rumored to be. Anyone that has more info on the Knotts boardwalk, do tell.

I think CP will build a woodie where DT is now. It will need more room than that but, the "meat" of the coaster should be there.

If a woodie is built, CP will not want to make the mistakes that were made with MS. #1 being...don't build another woodie in the back of the park. Woodies do better in the front of parks. The Gp seems to like riding them before they take on a big steel. That theory has served Blue Streak well over the years. #2. Don't hire Curtis Summers to build it. I feel a life time ban on Summers is in order.

I also feel a mouse of some type will end up at Cp, but not on boardwalk. Moving Wild Cat over were Oceana and Ocean Motion is, would fit better. It worked in the past, (on that side of the park). WC would add to the old time feel a boardwalk should have.

As far as DT..I still say burn it! But if we MUST keep it, move it to camp snoopy. That way CP could bill it for what it really is...a kiddie ride.

I think there is a ban on Curt Summers at parks all over the world. Didn't he pass away a few years back?

REALLY? Thats the best news since MF! Lets put a life time ban on all remaining Summers as well, just to be on safe side!

VERY!!!!
Even if he were still alive, it would probably be a bad idea to ban all of his designs because of MS. I'm sure he had some winners. That would be like banning all Intamin rides because of the heavily critisized DT. But would you really want to do that? Before MF's announcememt, I'd bet you would have said yes.

-------------

Ya, the one he built at SFDL is a real winner too. Can anyone name a good coaster he built? The guy has been paid a ton of money over the years to build junk. Ya, poor Curt. I don't think he's even dead. I bet he is sitting at home counting his money and laughing at every sucker that ever hired him.

As far as Intamin...I don't like DT but it has held up over years. It's just lame, but not poorly built. Intamin has a ton of great rides that I have rode over the years and a couple of duds along the way...you'll have that, it's normal.

After I rode that crap coaster old Curt built at SFDL I knew MS was no mistake, it's a habit. Anyone that builds coasters like that is only in it for profit and could care less about the safty and well being of the GP....so I care less about him.

Here's some perspective... Disaster Transport, originally known as Avalanche Run, was built by our friends at Intamin... The very same company that designed Millennium Force.

Yes, I know that. Like I said in my last post, "DT is lame, but NOT poorly built". "I don't like DT, but it has held up over the years". The ride is just to tame for ME. I DO beleive Intamin cares about building a good ride and the safty and well being of the GP. I DO NOT beleive Curt Summers does. I have rode many Intamin rides like superman and shockwave SFMM, Gyro drop at PKI, superman at SFDL, Volcano blast at PKD, Demon drop, the list goes on and on. I have thought some Intamin rides were more intense than others, but all were well built.
