The area around 'Area 51'

Do you think that (like they did with WT and MF, and most other coasters) that they will redo most of the midway around the new ride? Like repave the midway, add new landscaping, put in new benchs, new bathrooms? Or can you think of anything else?

well...with this ride, it looks like they will have to redo part of the midway if not all of it because area 51 is right in the middle of everything and if this ride is what everybody says it is...i think they will redo the midway

I was looking at this pic of area 51 and the area around it....

There is a bunch of survey marks now on the lagoon path on the back side of Area 51. These marks line up perfectly with the two footers under construction. My guess is that the lagoon path will be no more. So yes, we will probably see a midway reconfig.

I saw that too. But it's weird that there is two footers, and two sets of arrows. I don't care what anyone says, it's dueling.

Nice pic ouluvdt2. ! Thanks . whats great about the point is that its always reinventing self. I'm sure this midway will be upgraded after the ride is put up.

Speaking strictly from a marketing and real estate use view, putting the entrance for this new ride directly across from Magnum or in the direct area and re-doing the midway may not be as productive as somewhere else. CP already has plenty of people in the Magnum area.

From what we saw this weekend, the area over near Frontier needs much more foot traffic to make it more productive ($$$). At noon on Saturday the area was almost reminiscent of Ghost Town.

We have no figures on the Cedar Creek Mine Ride, but to most coaster crazies, that ride has been a joke for years. If it was my park, I'd put the entrance back by that area and do away with CCMR if necessary. Let's face it, not many of us run to CCMR at gate opening. With the new ride's entrance back there, it will be a draw for lots more people and give a shot in the arm to the business attractions in that area. Also, it would spread out the crowds a bit more which is always nice.

It looks possible from the maps and air shots. And just think how far MF entrance is from the big hill where all of the initial construction was done. The area of concentrated initial construction is not necessarily the entrance or station.

What do the rest of you think?

I completely agree. Area 51 will not house the entrance or station. Personally, I think the station will be near the current site of Troika.

Mine Ride is the 10th most popular ride at Cedar Point, as determined by total number of rides given:

1. Gemini - 2,439,934
2. C.P. & L.E. Railroad - 2,218,338
3. Raptor - 2,171,280
4. Magnum XL-200 - 2,130,694
5. Millennium Force - 1,954,163
6. Sky Ride - 1,840,159
7. Iron Dragon - 1,680,269
8. Corkscrew - 1,347,482
9. Mantis - 1,253,978
10. Mine Ride - 1,120,317

Coaster enthusiasts make up a very small percentage of Cedar Point guests. Not every ride needs to be a thriller to have a legitimate home at the park. Some coaster enthusiasts may want to get of Mine Ride, but I bet there are at least a few non-coaster enthusiasts who could care less about Millennium Force. Shouldn't the park offer something for everyone?

I wonder how far attendance would drop next year if coaster enthusiasts were the ones who decided Cedar Point's future. Balance is good.

I don't think we can get rid of the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. We have to keep some attractions for the timid and young (not tall enough to ride the big guns).
I personally will ride CCMR over Mantis any day. Just because some enthusiasts don't like it doesn't mean you get rid of it. What is my daughter supposed to ride when she is too scared to ride the big coasters? CCMR.

Thanks for the figures on the ride attendance. There were some big surprises there for me. Come to think of it, we usually do the Mine Ride late in the day and that might account for the very short or lack of queue there.

I completely agree with the need for balance.

I'm kinda surprised at the attendence of iron dragon . its que never looks that busy...its probably from the excellent crew movin all the people. hhmm.. I guess you do learn someting new every day....

I think the entrance will be closer to the Corkscrew station, I know that Nacho stand there is going to be history. Just think not even 5 years ago that midway was ALL trees!

I'm sure that area will be revamped, but I hope they try to preserved most of the natural beauty of that area. There are some really cool looking trees in that area as well as other vegetation and it would be a pity to see them taken out.

I believe the entrance will be either somewhere close to Corkscrew's station, or somewhere by the current John Deere display they have now.

The station will be in the vicinity of Troika, and launch towards Area 51 where there will undoubtably be a massive tophat.

What? Enthusiasts are wrong, or worse yet, not the center of the universe? Gasp!

I agree with Dan and think the station will be in the area of the corkscrew. This ride will probably help Corkscrews numbers and probably will unfortunately help out Magnum, which has had pretty short lines the last 2 years. Look at how Twister has helped DT this year. Most of the time the line is longer for DT!

I don't see it going anywhere near Mine Ride. That midway was all repaved the year Camp Snoopy was put in and the area from Corkscrew to Magnum is pretty beat up. I just hope they don't touch the John Deere display, it's the whole reason I come to the park.

Why would that be the only reason you go to the park? Anyways, I still would love to see some part of this ride travel over the midway, even the launch. I doubt that would happen though, its probably too loud.------------------

I also think the station is going to be right where the Nacho Stand by corkscrew is now. But PLEASE!!! DON'T TAKE OUT THE DIPPIN' DOTS STAND BY CORKSCREW!!

I would be worried about the safety factor more than the noise. The noise would draw attention to the ride, kinda like WT's launch does.
