So I was talking with someone from Cedar Point who dealt much with the technical parts of cp does anyone know what they handle besides starlight?
I am guessing you are talking about an Entertainment Technician? If so then I can help you out there.
Entertainment Techs take care of all the backstage work at the different Live E venues. The ice show at the Goodtime Theater typically has 4 Deck Techs and 3 Spot Ops. Jack Aldrich Theater typically has 2 Stage Hands and 2 Spot Ops. The Palace, Red Garter Saloon and All Wheels Stadium only have Stage Managers who have an overall knowledge of all areas (lighting, sound, etc.).
Deck Crews and Stage Hands take care of everything backstage. This includes the rigging, fly system, curtain pulls, props/scenery, cleaning, maintaining the ice (Goodtime) and generally everything else that is not done by a performer or usher (which is A LOT).
You should have a good knowledge of theater work with a concentration in either lighting, audio, live mixing, rigging or staging. The department is small so positions fill up quick. Unlike other departments, Live E starts looking for Techs the week after the park closes the previous season. Any other questions, feel free to ask, Entertainment is what I do for a living. Also check out Cedar Point's website for more info.... http://www.cedarpoint.com/jobs/live-entertainment-auditions
It dealt with that and he said roaming the park tech which I was curious about. And I know they do hire "tech crews" around halloweekends that deal with lighting, fog, etc.
Until Halloweekends, the only Techs that get to roam the park are the Entertainment Tech Supervisors. All Theater Techs stay at their theaters from shift start to end. I guess you could say the Starlight Tech roams around but its just the Frontier Trail, not the entire park. That position is already taken though unless the guy doing it decides not to return this year. Even then you have to have a good knowledge of the equipment used for that show.
Once Halloweekends begin, Fog Technicians will roam the Area they are assigned to. Each Area typically has at least one Scare Zone and one Haunted House in it. You bounce between the two making sure the fog levels are good and the lighting fixtures don't have any burnt out lamps. Techs however do not get to roam the entire park.
Being a Fog Tech can be fun but it is a LONG shift and if you have ever been to Halloweekends, it can be very cold and wet. When it pours down rain and the guests run for dry cover, you are still standing out in the cold rain turning off fog machines. While 80% of your job will take place in your Area dealing with fog machines, the other 20% of your shift will be working on the Halloweekends parade. This means you will be driving a float as long as you have a good driving record.

The starlight tech (who happens to be one of my closest friends) will be back this year!
I thought he was talking about a aquatic technician at first.

Well if that were the case, I could have provided that info too. Another easy job that many don't know about at Cedar Point.
Yep Alan will be back I'm sure! I will be returning as a Live E Tech, don't know where yet but I am sure I will be helping out in Starlight quite a bit like I did last year!
Everything 99er said is pretty much right on for Live E. There are a few occasions where you can get out and do other stuff during the season but not many (mostly before or after your regular shift).
Last year during the summer I worked at the Ice Show as a stage tech. I operated the fly's for the show and assisted with ice cut. We had a great crew and I understand a lot are returning this year also. But I also was looking for extra work so I was able to assist with some special events as well as doing things like pressure washing the stadium and assisting with Starlight Maintenance every few weeks. I was putting in, an average, around 70 hour weeks; sometimes as many as 90! But most techs put in around 50 to 60 depending on how many shows you are working that day.
During Halloweekends I was pretty much the floater tech during the day. I ran the kid's costume contest and because I was the only Tech not officially working the parade I also was the one who would start up the Haunted Houses and when something was wrong was the one who went and fixed it. If everything went fine I usually would tag along with the parade as crowd control. In the evening I worked as a Fog Tech for Area 3 (Screamworks, Cornstalkers, and Eternity Infirmary. And Midway's from Railroad track to Railroad Track)
They are still taking applications and if you are interested they even do open interviews/auditions at the point and surrounding schools on a regular basis. Last year I didn't get hired till sometime in March so they hire right up to the last second like all the other departments.

Thanks for all the info guys! There probably aren't any spots open so I probably won't apply for any I was just curious for the future. Thanks! (:
Don't ever think there aren't any open spots. Apply. It is worth it either way. (Think lottery, if you dont play you can't win)
