T-minus 7-days and counting, what's your opening day strategy?

Gate opens at 8:30 for resort guests and platinum passholders. I'll probably try to show up at the Wicked Twister gate around that time and head over to the Gatekeeper Plaza for the ribbon cutting ceremony and hop on GateKeeper straight from there. After that it will depend on lines.

are you sure the park opens at 8:30 for platinum members?

With large crowds possible, I was thinking of seeing some Live E, but looks like most shows don't start until a little later.

I probably won't ride much that day, so it will probably just be a day to walk around and look at the changes for 2013, and say hi to coaster friends.

Ride everything but Gatekeeper since it will probably have at least a 3-4 hour wait. I'll just hit it before the park closes

Yargh. I'm getting worried. Checking weather forecasts, and everywhere is saying it'll be raining on Saturday.

Isn't this coming Sunday Mother's Day!?!?!? I wonder if that will keep the crowds down a bit? Probably negligible.

If that's the forecast, I would recomend that eveyone just stay home. Both days.

I second that....

For some reason, I'm not sure if I should trust you two.

^ Yeah I'm a little worried myself about the forecast as well. Why couldn't we have last weekends weather for this coming weekend? 70 degrees and sunny. I mean I won't complain about the 60s, but this blows that the weather man wants it to rain on Saturday. :(

That is a big one.

I think this weather is perfect. I wouldn't mind a monsoon for a couple hours on Saturday.

I'll second that!

Maybe I'll get to try Cedar Point's newest water ride.

Most B&Ms can run in the rain, right?

Looking at the updated forecasts, it's looking like that's becoming more and more of a possibility.

This past Sunday I was at Kings Island, and The Beast and Diamondback continued to operate with all of their trains during a few periods of moderately heavy rain. I stayed in that corner of the park, so I don't know if other rides followed suit (Vortex and Backlot were running, but I don't know with how many trains), or if KI ever did the "shut everything down at the first sign of rain" thing. I'm hopeful though that it may indicate an updated rain policy chain-wide, but I guess we'll see.

Kings Island keeps a lot of their rides open in the rain. Last year during closing weekend we rode Diamondback in the hardest and coldest rain imaginable. It was nuts.

KI is awesome about keeping rides open in the rain, particularly DB. Dude, when it's cold and windy, and pouring rain, that ride HURTS! I have vivid memories of getting pelted, wearing a rain coat with the hood cinched down around my face with only enough room to breathe. All while never getting off the train because their was no line. I must have gotten 25 laps in that way, in a little over an hour's time. What a great memory!
