Being a sweep is pretty crappy. You get yelled at if you're too near another sweep. You have to walk ALL day. You have to answer guests questions and and out maps to them. You deal with garbage all day. I got yelled at because someone dropped a napkin after I walked by that area. Then the manager showed me how to sweep garbage into my dustbin. He was a tool.

However, its really easy to get away with doing nothing all day (which would get old quickly I imagine). You never have to ask to go to the bathroom. You can just hide out somewhere.

Actually being a sweep isnt that bad.. Last season it became part of park operations. I was the TL for it and it wasnt that bad. Yes you get yelled at for walking along with another sweep because you can accomplish more when you are by yourself because you dont have any distractions keeping you from doing your job. It has a lot of benefits to it like being able to use the restroom when ever you have to and get water when ever you need to.. As far as being able to hide and get away with doing nothing well that has changed. We as leadership now keep an open eye out and make sure you are out on the midway doing your job.. It isn't fair if you feel you dont have to work when other people have to. This years leadership Team Leaders and Asst. Team Leaders are very good people I know them personally and Im sure they will keep their crew in line if anything gets out of control..

since sweeps position is outside all the time are we allowed 2 smoke anytime we want or do we have to wait for breaks?

You should only smoke during your break times..

^and only in smoking areas! I hate to walk by someone that is smoking. It would really piss me off it was an employee.

Steve, how can you tell the difference between me being in a break area, or being on the other side of the zone as you, or in the bathroom, or behind a building?

You are a very discouraging person, lladnar... Are you trying to pick a fight? People are trying to prep for a FUN summer by getting information, and you are really presenting a horrible image of sweeps. Please stop.

Plus I would hope the new people and the returners in sweeps have enough respect for their other crew members to not just screw around all day. You clearly do not. Sweeps is going to be different in many ways this year, much different than the past few years. Since it is obvious that you had maybe one or two (or maybe just imagined) bad experiences in or with sweeps you should probably keep your negative "advice" to yourself. Thanks!

all I'm trying to say is that there are better jobs than being a sweep. Take a look at the sweeps faces. They all look like they want to kill themselves. The job kills your soul.

Well there is always a job better then another any where you work..My crew last season had a fun time and were always happy.Im sure in the past years yea it might have been a horrible job but a lot has changed and sweeps get respected now then ever.I would say that the crews that are assigned to sweeps this season will have a blast cause they have some awesome Leaders congrats to anyone who is hired as a sweep you will love it. It has a lot of benefits that you will see compared to rides.. Have Fun Sweeps Crew 09

I was a sweep for 2 seasons, and it wasn't as bad as you think. As long as you're doing what your supposed to be doing, sweeping the midways, and helping guests, no one really bothered you. My TL, and supervisors were very professional people. I had a great time being a sweep, and made a lot of friends. Prior to working at CP, I worked in retail, so I really wanted to get back into the field that I was more familar with. I didn't leave sweeps because it was horrible, I left to pursue a field I like very much. I'm happy in merchandise now, but I'd never tell anyone sweeps was not a good department to work in.

If you work any other job in the park, sweeping the area around where you work is a punishment.

Is being a sweep that bad or did some of you just people have bad experiences with or what?

I run cross country and I notice that for every other sport running is a punishment. Some people might actually enjoy being a sweep. Just because you didnt doesnt mean that everyone one else wont.

I'm an area 3 sweep. Yeah. My feet still hurt from todays shift and they probably will through out my days off. There are lots of benefits from being a sweep. We get to talk to the customers a lot and that's fun to meet new people. We wear yellow jumpsuits and we look pretty snazzy in them if you don't mind me saying so. Our teamleaders watch out for us and make sure that we don't slack off. It's a pretty cool job unless your in an area where there is no trash, then time just lags on. I also have a pretty nifty tan :). So, GO SWEEPS!

I was a restroom attendant in o6 and 07 and i was jealous of the sweeps. and Alot of the other park employees are jealous of sweeps too. You get to walk around, meet people all over the park and not just ur co-workers in ur zone. Its a nice job. Besides give it a few weeks and ur feet wont hurt anymore :D Trust me wining is usual when ur new or just starting over but its worth it. I lost 30lbs the first MONTH lol. ALSO to the guy wining, find another job if u dont like this one. I mean people let off steam while working yes but u talk about it like u had NO idea that ur job included "GASP" sweeping!! lol. They gave u a job description before u accepted the job im sure u honestly cant think its that bad if u took the job.

i was a sweep in zone one last year. yeah, it was hard as ****. i lost like 5kg in the first couple weeks. i felt lonely cuz we were not allowed to work together or to talk to friends. but guess what?! i'm so proud of it now. we got to walk around the park and talk to different people, including guest and emplyees(just dont get cought :p). we had to know almost all the details about the park and be able to answer every kind of questions and handle all possible situations, complains...etc. i got to know the park better than any of my friends cuz i was a sweep. and the best part was, i never knew what will happen to you the next moment cuz cedar point was just a crazy placeenjoy your stay there. you'll LOVE it

I am an ATL of area 2, and being a sweep isn't that bad. this is my 2nd year and honestly i love it, because you can kinda walk where you want to as long as it is in your zone of your area and you can talk to some very interesting guest. and most of the time they always have a question for you and yes the questions do get old but thats why you alway treat the millionth question as if it was the first and always give a nice smile, cause they will always smile back at you and say thank you. it can be a very rewarding job just to let guest know that ANY sweep is there to help with anything. and most of the time guest will stop you just to say hello or call out anything just to get your attention, heck i have been call a lot of things on the midways but the best one was "Excuse me, Cedar Point broom lady!" that was one that i just smiled and said yes and then went and told my co-workers the story and Most of us laughed about it and still joke about it to this day and others didnt find it as funny as others but hey all in a days work. so the point is dont tell sweeps "hey your job must suck." tell them "your doing a great job!" or "Keep up the great work" and pick up trash, just to give a helping hand. because it doesnt suck it is one of the Greatest jobs that the park has just because we dont care about numbers or intervals all we care about is if our guest are having a great day and if not then we try to help them the best we can.
