supernatural stories

has anyone heard of stories of cp "hauntings" particularly in the dorms. i'm not trying to freak anyone out. I was an employee way back in the day of the "white dorms"/21 and over dorms when I was only 17/18. I had tons of fun, and would do it again in a heartbeat but something my old pals and I talk about is supernatural things that occurred. In the gold dorms in the back on the first floor near the middle door facing what used to be vending machine area was my friends dorm. I always had a weird vibe when going to that first floor restroom like someone was watching and a very cold feeling in there even on the hottest days. One late night we all were hanging out we heard someone in the restroom but had not heard any doors open etc to indicate someone was in the hall then we heard the showers turning on we checked it out and no one was in there but the showers were on. other weird things occurred to but I'll save that for another time. Years later I began working about an hour away from CP with a old housekeeper lady she said she worked at CP as a housekeeper around 1980's she said she quit because of an incident involving a girl being scalded to death in the gold dorm showers anyone hear of a story like this or of other "hauntings"

I read on some Ohio haunting site that a girl lost her family on Frontier Trail and wanders up and down the trail at night looking for them. I've also heard that Breakers was haunted.

Not really about the dorms but this did happen to me personally.

One day I was in the Town Hall Museum looking at the Carousel horses, this was the first time I had actually looked at the horses. I was looking at the black horse on the right (the one, which according to legend, has the ashes of the builders wife inside them) and the eye was cloudy, you could not see anything like an eye it was just a milky white.

Going back the next day and looking at the same horse the eye was fine, looked just like it was supposed to, after I mentioned this to one of my room mates he told me the story of the Carousel and the horse.

Also I have heard that the building that the Carousel used to be in (Undertaker U during Halloweekends) is haunted, if you go in at night you can hear the music from the Carousel.

Not much but something

That sounds like a good back story for the Fright Zone. :)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

In terms of Cedar Point's "hauntings," these are the ones I'm aware of:
-CJ's Provisions
-Hotel Breakers
*Breakers East
*Room #169
*The Rotunda
*Supposed suicide pact of two lovers, only one of which died.
-Giant Wheel (Supposedly goes backwards at midnight.)
-Daniel Muller Military Horse & the Frontier Carousel - Once on the old Frontier Carousel, and the 3 stories that go along with it. The original horse remains in Town Hall.
-Coliseum

I think there are a few others, but I'm not remembering them at the moment.

Ohhh dear Lord, yes. In March/April '95, all departments @ Breakers used to have to cross-train. I was a Front Desk clerk,..and we were cross-training in Housekeeping. Even the managers said for as much "rumor" as there was to the room, they hated going in there because they felt extreme changes in temperatures and as if they were being watched. All of us who trained in #169 that day felt the EXACT same feelings..even those who had NO belief in the supernatural. It was uncanny and disturbing. Later, when I worked the Front Desk all summer...we could NEVER book that room consistently. Unaware guests would check in..and then boom..3 or 4am in the morning..check RIGHT out of the room or demand another room and most said "You wouldn't believe it if I told you".

*The Rotunda

- same general feeling. Extreme changes in temperature and the feeling of "being watched". Housing and Breakers staffs agreed.

*Giant Wheel (Supposedly goes backwards at midnight.)

- no idea about this, but have been told the story numerous times by friends and family alike. Almost a "local legend".

*Daniel Muller Military Horse & the Frontier Carousel

- see above. Everyone seems to have a similar version to the story. The most consistent that I've heard is that the woodworker found out his wife was having an affair and then murdered her and put her ashes/remains inside the horse. It sounds far fetched to me..but have you ever noticed that the horse "does" look pissed off? :)

*Coliseum

- was told of the "visions" of people dancing or a girl in a 1900's turn of the century era dress walking in circles. Working in Live Shows, co-workers and bosses almost made it an "inside joke" and had rituals to go along with it. We never went up there alone or sometimes we'd switch a light so many times or talk to the "visions" out of pure interest/fright. Let me tell you though...being up there at night with only one manager or co-worker and they ask you to go to the opposite side of the floor to get something for them..it's an uncomfortable feeling!!

I'm sure Maintenance work and testing have nothing to do with this. *rolls eyes*

A place that has been around this long probably does have some supernatural stories, I've never experience them, nor do I extensively believe in the supernatural, but it probably does happen. Just imagine what it'd be like in the off season in some of these places...

There was a seminar on this topic at the Sandusky Merry-Go-Round musem a few years back. One of my favorite presenters was a veteran CP & LE RR engineer who lives in the area. He said the "Judy K" is haunted, because Dick Kinzel, in order to honor his ego, um, I mean.. WIFE, renamed the train. It's always supposed to be bad luck to rename trains.

This 50 something year-old local guy swore up and down that the train had a mind of its own. He talked of the train starting without being prompted as well as other incidents.

The funniest was on one day when they were "warming up" the trains for the day and a giant mass of coal dust had built up and solidified in the smokestack. They were driving the trains slowly to get the buildup out of the stacks. Apparently, the train was approaching the frontiertown crossing nearest the Gemini and the train engineer noticed Big Dick and a couple of silver tags near the crossing. Just then, the train forcibly shot the solidified coal dust out of the smokestack and it rained down on a lady wearing all white, right in front of the staff.

Obviously, I can't say if it's true, but a heck of a story.

Who is "Big Dick"?

Let's Get Weird.

I believe he is reffering to Dick Kinzel.

CP&LE RR GUY:

I'm not sure what the engineer's name was. I'd probably know him if I saw him. Say, do you have other Judy K stories to share?

cp&le rr guy's avatar

I could write a book on what all has happend with Judy since her 're-naming'. :)

I can see why Mr. Kinzel re-named #5 from 'Jack Foster' to his wife's name 'Judy K.' and renumbered to #44. It is just a tradition of railroading that once a locomotive is named, it should never be changed. Especially if it's after a real person that had a true love for the engine and the railroad.

Like I mentioned, Jack Foster is still around, you just have to catch him at the right times... ;)
There is nothing like being in the Engine House at night if no one else is in there. Spooky stuff~
