sunday closing day

I had a pretty good time yesterday at closing day. Ended up with about 15-20 rides on Magnum and a ride on Gatekeeper, Gemini, Mean Streak, Raptor and Maverick. The longest line I waited for was Maverick, just about 45 minutes in the evening.

Weather was "nice" by Ohio standards for late October. Much better day than Saturday which I sat at Buffalo Wild Wings and enjoyed beverages and wings all afternoon.

As long as you're courteous and not being rude to other guests to get a seat, the world is a better place. There are some of the regular single riders that I have nothing but disdain for. But that's just me.

What do the worst single riders do? I haven't seen anything myself--which is odd being I go there quite a bit.

If people are polite and ask and wait their time..I'm ok with it..

When people just jump in next to you, push past you, knock them down ect. then it becomes an issue..

I just want to say I have not personally witnessed it but was making a joke based on the numerous stories I've read about single riders in their self-described shirts such as what thedevariouseeffect is saying. A "Single Rider" t-shirt is my ticket to entitlement. Out of my way! I've got a ride to catch!

Does anybody here wear a Single Rider t-shirt? I'm sure there are plenty of polite single riders, even those wearing the shirt. But in wearing the shirt it seems to me more than just being alone that day at the park, that person is on a mission.

I enjoy wearing clothes that look good and suit my mood and who I am..

All caps or block lettering in bright colors on a flourescent background shirt...not for me

Also when single riders strike up convos with regular people and stuff...hilarious...

I wish CP was going to be open this weekend! There are a few haunted houses in NW OH area that are open on Nov. 1-2. Off season blues...

Hershey Park and Kennywood are opened in Nov and Dec, I don't know how many rides are open, but I imagine it's a holiday themed event. It would be nice if Cedar Fair did something like that in their parks. I would go even if it was just flat rides open and light displays.

I didn't know Kennywood started a holiday event. I knew about Hershey Park and Dollywood though. Kennywood has a handful of flat rides open and looks like fun and very inexpensive. I found this video on YouTube after you posted about this:

I think we may check it out. Thanks!

I think it would be too blasted cold to have any kind of holiday event at Cedar Point, what with the lake wind on the peninsula.

Kings Island used to have a Winterfest that I had attended when I was a kid with ice skating on the fountain area. I thought it was more than one season but from what I've read lately it was only once.

Knowing what the last 2 closing days have been like I kind of dreaded this one but was pleasantly surprised by pretty sweet weather (in Ohio terms) I got to see many of my CP buds (including John H, Dick, and Mr Skyward)) and got to ride my Raptor 10x. The longest wait for the day was for Gatekeeper (45 mins) and the waits for other rides varied on the times. All in all an amazing closing day, and surprisingly, since moving to Florida not as depressing as it used to be years ago. Got there at opening and ended up not leaving until well past closing :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

I know Cedar Point tried a holiday event back in the 90's, but from what I read, it was poorly executed and it was just a gimmick to sell season passes. I don't know much about the lake winds, but if other parks in locations with a climate similar to northern Ohio are doing events like that and are moderately successful, Cedar Fair is losing some potential profit and giving competitors the upper hand during that season.

Trust me the LAST place anyone wants to be in the dead of winter is Sandusky. What parks are you referring to that do events in the winter?

Hershey Park and Kennywood

Neither of which are on a lake OR as far north as CP

Here is a previous thread on holiday events at the park:

http://pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/28308.aspx

John H. was asked at the PointBuzz Off Season tour this past winter if CP would ever do another Christmas in the Park and he stated its not in the plans.

So was anyone at the "passing of the baton" event on Gemini? I wondered how that went. Did anyone get a golden ticket and get to go for the ride? If you got one, where did you find it?

I'm not going to bump an old thread, but you said yourself in that thread it doesn't get that cold and you would attend an event if they offered one. I think people on here exaggerate how winters are, and we're talking Nov and Dec, not Jan and Feb. And Pennsylvania's winters aren't that much better than ours, the difference is minimal. As I stated before, I think Christmas in the park was just poorly executed and didn't offer much. If they looked at the parks I mentioned and saw that it made some money, they may reconsider it. Another problem is staffing, but if they ran a few flats (obviously coasters can't run), a limited number of food stands with hot chocolate, transformed CP&LE into a Polar Express type ride and added good light displays, I think it could work out, all they would need to do would be hire a few locals for seasonal and students on holiday break. If some people don't want to go, they wouldn't have to, nobody is forcing you to go to any such event.

My boyfriend and I got to take part in John's farewell ceremony on Gemini. I found my golden ticket right as the gates opened to the general public. I had decided to walk back to the car to get rid of my sweatshirt when I saw one around the neck of an employee just walking down the midway. I took off towards her and then hesitated a little because I second guessed myself on whether or not she was an employee because I couldn't see a name tag. She had a group of people that were obviously employees around her so I kept going and asked her for it. We tried all day to find one for my boyfriend but were unable to. We decided around 7:30 to head over to Gemini and I checked Tony's Twitter to see if he'd posted anything. I saw he posted that he may or may not have the last few so I figured if we saw him it might be worth a shot. I totally missed him when he walked by but my boyfriend noticed him so I walked over to him boyfriend in tow. He asked us a few questions before unzipping his jacket to reveal a few hanging around his neck. He gave us one and then boom, suddenly he was swarmed with people asking if he had extras for them lol.
