Steel Venom

Glad to see we inherited another fine working peice of Intamin handy work. The ride has been down more than it has been up this season. The last two and a half days the train has been sitting outside the station in the launch area. Either the train was thrown together half assed, SF just abused the ride or its just another fine tuned Intamin coaster. Any clues?

Makes me wonder how safe it was under Six Flags care?

Under Six Flags care none of the rides are safe, they don't take very good care of the rides they have in their parks. Dan when I was at GL on June 8, Steel Venom was the 1st coaster i ran to and the train stoped half way in the ride, because they had some problem with it. GL had Steel Venom back up and running by mid day. They were also having problems with a lot of the other rides in that area and all the rides in that area but Big Dipper was shut down at the same time, but that don't have anything to do with Steel Venom as a coaster, just a side note.

Probably both parties fault. Some Intamin, some SF. Based on the newer Intamin rides lately I can see why Walter and Claude got out of there, seems like they were some of the best they had.

It had to be six flags' fault, Steel Venom made in 2000, MF in 2000. A SF ran ride broke down alot when i was their last in 2002, in 2002 MF didn't break down at all when i was their. Wicked Twister doesn't break down much either. I will say this in plain English... SF sucks, they don't give a damn about $*!*, people die on their rides or in their parks and just continue on. 3 SF deaths i can remember just of top of my head

1.Old dude died at SF WoA 2002

2.Raging Bull incident at SF GA 2003

3.S:RoS incident at SFNE 2004

Notice a trend here? I wonder who is going to die at SF in 2005?

Anytime I visit SFMM I plan on at least half of their coasters being down on any given day. I don't think I've ever been there when Superman The Escape had both sides running/working. They can only handle running a single train on X, which makes the wait time go through the roof. We can all breathe a sigh of relief that CP has saved Geauga Lake!

Demon, you mean that CF has saved Geauga Lake.

I am still waiting for CF to improve the rides at MIAdv. Yes, that park looks great, but nothing exciting new has been added for the last couple of years.

I wouldn't count on CF adding much to GF for a few years. Hey, we're first in line, anyway!

MrScott, I would really like to see them add some new stuff to MiA as well. I was there yesterday and was thinking how much better it would be with a new coaster or thrill ride of some kind.

Soon, MrCoasterfan, soon. I hear a campground is next, but no major ride expansion for a few years. CF and the local government have to settle differences as to who is going to pay how much for city water, sewer & taxes.

CF is willing to wait. They have been for a couple of years now.

I continue to grow older watching oppurtunity slip away. Ho Hum.

Better luck to Geauga Lake.

Nice to see folks talking about my ride (though I seem to never work it). Last night I had to be the bearer of bad news, as I was on courtesy for 3-1/2 hours, breaking the bad news to people that our ride was down. Kudos to our maintenance folks though, for working to get it back up and running today.

Now if only I was working Steel Venom more often...

EDIT: Instead of starting a new post, I will ask a question here. Has anyone seen the station layout of the other Steel Venom. I am curious to how different it is from SV at GL, and from Wicked Twister, which has a nice station layout. *** Edited 6/17/2004 1:29:52 AM UTC by Avalanche Sam***

The other Steel Venom is nearly the same as Wicked Twister's station, though it's obviously shorter for the shorter train.

Thanks Jeff, though what I was looking for was more of the layout from an operations standpoint. How are the queues set up? Where is the control room, etc.? I am interested in seeing how it looks compared to our station. Also, I wonder how the light curtains are set up, and if it is more like GL's VF, or more like WT.

Thanks again Jeff, and anyone that knows.

Sam, both Steel Venom at Valleyfair! and Wicked Twister at Cedar Point have the same arrangements as far as where the electrical room is (to the side of launch, opposite side of midway) Where the operator booth is, and where the Queue line is. The Queues are to the side and stretch behind the back spike and around to the station. Exact same layout, but I think it's mirrored.

Therefor, Geauga Lake's Steel Venom is nothing like the set-up of Valleyfair!'s Steel Venom.

Sam, Control Host is basically on the other side, and they have mag-lock operator saftey areas. And instead of one curtain per side, they have 2 per side, with a steel beam being the divider. Also, they seem to have no problems "finding home!"

I wasn't their at WoA when it happened, but i saw on the news that a real old guy who i believed worked at the park had a heart attack... the park didn't really do anything accept block off a corner of the park.
