Starlight Experience

Last night (Friday night) I finally saw the Starlight Experience, and I intend to write a longer post later detailing my impressions of SE. For the short answer, I loved it. Thought it was absolutely magical. Enthralling, even. I sincerely hope this is a permanent addition to Cedar Point and that they add to the experience in years ahead. It's exactly what the park needed.

It will be interesting to see how that now-lit-up section of the park will look from above...thinking specifically Power Tower and MF's lift. Should be quite lovely.

At Dragster's ERT they had frontier trail lit up in blue sections. It looked like most of the lights were off. It looked beautiful at 420'. I realized what it was right when I noticed it.

I just realized, were the lights used in Millennium Tunnel the same LED lights that were used in Club Blood, because they looked very similar. Also, the last time I walked through Starlight Experience was last weekend, so I was wondering, did they still have the fog turned on in the tunnel daily?

Does anyone have any pics of this yet? I have been looking and haven't been able to find any....I realize it's more difficult to take decent pics of lights in the dark, but I figured I'd ask!

I'm sure Walt/Jeff will have some soon. I remember Walt telling somebody he would get some soon after it started.

Let's Get Weird.

I have not been to the park yet this year, and have not seen the Starlight Experience yet. In the web cam on Frontier Trail, what is that object in the middle of the trail? I have seen it for a couple of days. Are they floats that are brought out every night?

I don't know if that link will change or if that image will hold. Thanks for you input.

Yes, there are three "floats" that are parked in the midway.

We have a ton of photos and video of the show that you'll see in the coming weeks.

Personally, I really liked SE. In fact, it reminded me of something at a Disney park. As long as it's maintained, it proves to be a great addition.

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

Are there a lot of people at Starlight Experience?

I just got back from 5 days at the park. I was not too keen on the "christmas lights",but I have to say I was very suprised I liked the lights quite a bit. We were there at coaster mania and I wasn't the biggest fan there. I saw some guy with a big video camera there under the entrance bridge taking some shots. He looked very familiar, but I just can't place the face. I have a feeling we will be seeing some pics up on here.

Well, walked through Starlight Experience 3 times yesterday, so here's my review.

Definitely a pleasant addition that I liked... It was a nice way to end the night, and I actually liked the music..very peaceful. I was also happy that they left it on well after the park was closed. Park closed at 10, but I wasn't done with Maverick until 11, so it made a nice walk back to the car.

The winter part was best, and I wish they had more of the cool snow machines; they only turned on a couple times, and they covered a small area.

I didn't have any 3D glasses, so I'll have to see if they add anything some other time this year.

Was it anything mind blowing? No, but it was about what I expected it to be, and it DEFINITELY dispersed the crowds much more evenly. Back in the day, Frontier Trail was a complete ghost town at night. Now it felt like Fright Zone, and the Gemini midway was much thinner.

Hey Ffej, you had to walk right by me last night!! How funny is that! I found a lost girl wandering around and called her mom to come and get her. The little girl,my daughter, and myself were sitting on a bench by the gazebo/ skyhawk area waiting for her mother to come get her.

The glasses aren't 3d. They change the individual lights to either hearts, snowflakes or stars. They are a really cool effect and yo ucan use them at fireworks displays. I was a little skeptical about the lights at first( ok I thought they would be stupid) but I really enjoyed the lights.

I just saw the lights for the first time tonight and I have to say I was really impressed. The winter area was especially nice, it seemed to have more lights, a great looking snowflake on top of a building and even a fake snow machine!

I found the experience to be really fun and just made you feel good to walk through, a great addition to the park!

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Watch out for this guy and his video camera.

Hey, That's the guy I saw!!! I was going to give him a hug, but I don't think he would like that from me. lol

Jeff, you have a HVX-200? Doesn't it kick ass? The manual control you have over it is amazing. You using a P2 card? Ridiculously priced if you ask me for the amount you can record on them. Those are the same cameras we use in the Tri-C digital video program. I saw you in the park last Saturday shooting Starlight Experience, but that camera didn't look large enough to be an HVX. Was that a different camera that night?

Haha oh man the Ffej's almost united! I saw people in the gazebo...maybe it was you!

Thanks for the info about the glasses...I was hunting the ground to find a pair someone had thrown aside. Unlike Disaster Transport (just made a thread on it), perhaps people were actually satisfied with their Starlight glasses purchase.

I like pancakes.

Yes, it's an HVX200, and I have a 32 gig and two 4 gig cards for it. I generally shoot 720p/24 for Web stuff, unless it's very high motion. The camera is pretty decent, but because it's not a shoulder model, it's not always well-suited for the kind of run-n-gun shooting that I often do.

I wrote this in another thread, but I have to write it here too. The Starlight Experience was amazing! It was very beautiful, and the music added a lot to the ambience of the whole thing.

Winter has to be my favorite, thanks to the blue lights and snow machine. Cedar Point did a great job on this.

Jeff, I guess you have to eat a lot of pancakes when you run a cool CP website like this. ;)
