When we shut out other cultures and other nations, we deny ourselves the opportunity to see things from other perspectives and learn about other ways of doing things."

Sure, the USA is not the center of the universe (I would reserve that honor to God) but as far as this planet goes, it hard not to believe the US is. I mean, everything that we do here has worldwide implications. Remember the whole election thing? Notice how there was an undercurrent of instability in the European, Latin & Asian economies. Whenever there is some conflict, who does the world look to as the 'police force'? For Pete's sake, why is the U.N. headquartered in our largest city? We ARE in the limelight of this world. Heck if it wasnt for *OUR* military, this whole 'globilization' would never have taken place (the US *made* the internet and our satellite technology drives most communication).

Are Americans (for the most part) arrogant? Surely! But this arrogance is not wholy without merit. Whether one chooses to believe it or not, the world looks to the US first. It's my believe that they are waiting for us to fail, but nevertheless, they still let the USA have the lead.

Not bad for a country founded by a bunch of hypocritical criminals....

Jeremy, your last line,"slave owners who wanted to be free," reminds me of George Carlin. Another of my favorite lines from that rant he has, "The motto of this country should be 'you give us a color, we'll wipe it out.'"
