Stapling Out of Hand?

Yeah, I noticed that too, they slam down the bars so tight you can hardly freakin breathe! I think someone, particularly someone close with people at Cedar Point bring this up, its one thing to be snug, but not so tight that you cant breathe!

tom, i thought the guy got ejected on the bottome on the lift, can anyone confirm what really happened?

oh and cp rider, SROS AT SFDL is not a CLONE, it was the first one, then another park copied it.

yes, i too got a good pushin on the lap bar, of course i would call it "stapling" because being the sick person i am, i have stapled myself about 5 times... (just smack the stapler against your fore arm) and it doesnt hurt, until you pull it out. but anyways thats not the kind of "stapling" we are talking here... both of my times on dragster July 7th i think (the first monday after the 4th) I wasnt pushed on very hard... they did push against the lap bar, put it didn't hurt... it was discomforting, but it defenatly didnt hurt, and i agree its just, because of safety precautions...

ill be there on friday, and if dragster is open, ill be in line all day.

I rode Dragster on Monday, and while i was stapled donw, i felt no pain at all, the bar was snug against my thighs, no pain, and even though you do get stapled good, you still get air on the top, so just suck it up people.
Well, I know this isn't about TTD, but it is about a tight restraint. Last night, while riding Raptor, at about the cobra roll, my harness tightened up about a notch. Kinda uncomfortable, but I'd be fine. Then, shortly after the MCBR, it clamped down another notch. I could barely breath. When back at the station, the harnesses were released, and I literaly exploded out of the harness. So much so, that the poor ride op jumped back with a look of shock. That's when it became funny.

Anyway, has this everf happened to anyone else? I've had it tighten by a click before, but not two or three.

Hmmm just thinking out loud here whats worse, riding Dragster with a tight lapbar or riding Dragster with a OTSR. Being stapled isn't as big of a deal as you are all making it out to be. Its for your safety.

When I was at the coaster solace this past winter Jack Falfas gave his speech and he brought up the issue of lapbars. He told the group that the park had to fight very hard against the state of California to allow lapbars on Xcelerator because the state wanted OTSRs.

Everyone complained about this in 2000 with MF, its NO BIG DEAL. I've been stapled before and it hasn't ruined the ride experince, I can handle a few seconds of pain for a lap on Dragster any day of the week.

Its happened to me once before Dougster, it was just after the zero gravity roll that it clamped down one click, but the problem was that it was pretty tight to begin with, so it was very uncomfortable. then as we got to the fianl breaks we sat there....and sat there. an employee came back to tell us that someoen had lost their lunch in thte train before us and they had to clean it up befor ethey let us back in the station and that it would be a few mins. i tried to get the ride op's attention but it was no use, very thankful when we finally pulle din and was released.
That happened to me once too Dougster, only on Magnum. It was at the bottom of the first hill that it happened (if my remembery serves me correctly). The bar was tight enough since the ride-op decided it wasn't down far enough. I'm still not sure how it happened, but I do have my suspicions that the guy riding with me did it and I didn't notice....All I have to say tho is that in the on-ride picture you could clearly see me trying to keep the bar off my lap (due to the pain and all. lol), and when those bars were released I'm sure everyone in the station heard a "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" from me...
Dougster that happens to me on Raptor. I have tried "fighting" the OTSR during the ride but it is no use, it always clicks twice during the course and I end up feeling claustrophobic(like I can't breathe) by the end of the ride. Raptor1116, you have lived my nightmare! :)

We have to remember that there are different degrees of stapling. Those of you who think we are whining be thankful you weren't stapled like we have been. I haven't been "nailed" everytime I've been on Dragster but on two occasions it was to the point that it interfered with my ability to concentrate on my ride experience.

that's what happened to me on beast a bunch of times. then i put my folded up sweatshirt between my thighs and the harness and it worked like a charm. the ride attendent told me to take the sweatshirt off of my lap, and i took it off halfway and moved up my legs so i would be able to put it back in. i forgot all about the harness on the ride and it was one the best i've ever had since i also sat in the front where it's not as bumpy.

------------------
Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more cowbell!

I got more of a stapling for some reason on Power Tower down, than on TTD. On TTD it was snug but not painful.

ok, this really isnt about "stapling" but it is about ride harnesses... a few years a go i was riding the raptor, simple stuff eh? i always pull the harness down as far as it goes, so the ride ops dont see its lose and "staple" me... But anyways, this was my first ride on raptor that i had and i decided to like put my hands up... which you really cant do with the over head harnesses in the way... but anyway, we went into the cobra roll, and somewhere in the cobra roll my restraint defenatly came up... i felt it loosen off my shoulders and it felt like the only thing holding it from going all the way up was the little belt thingie... I grabbed the bars on the restraint and pulled them down so hard for the rest of the duration of the ride... and i think you can see the sheer terror on my face on the ride photo...

thats been the only time ive been ever "scared" on a roller coaster... well when when snake river falls opened i went on it with my aunt and my brother... and me and my brother were real skinny back then and there is only 1 bar per seat, and it stopped at her (she is huge) so me and my bro were forced to hang on for dear life and i thaught i was going to fall out for sure... but i didnt... :)

has anyone else had a similar experience? or was i just hallucinating on the raptor or something?

I didn't get scared but on Iron Dragon going through the knot my restraint popped up about 2 notches. Thats the only thing I can remember of restraints coming lose for me.

I don't think some realize here how hard some of us have been stapled. I've ridden dragster 4 times, and 3 times I was not stapled too badly. One of my rides, though, a big black woman STEPPED on my lapbar. I'm really surprised I didn't crush any bones ;) ok it wasn't that hard, but I was in a lot of pain.

Meanwhile I was able to keep a good inch or so from my legs to the lapbar on Xcelerator. The ride ops there were more nazish about me putting the seatbelt thru the strap in my hat and that cellphone that was 'going to fall off' (It was securely hooked to my belt loop, going nowhere)

Anyway, I do believe the stapling is out of hand this year on Dragster. Its fine most of the time, but sometimes theres an op who will really shove or step on the bar and put it down. I made sure to sit on the far side of the train last time I rode - the ride op on the near side was really stapling people in, to the point of painful looks.

I would have to assume (and we all know what that means) that since ther is little to no centrifugal force holding you in your seat during the twists (up and down), the park is a little more serious about the lap bars.

When you think about it, your center of gravity during the twists is about chest level. That won't hold you in your seat. You are also in a free-fall with the train (kind of like NASA's "Vomit Commit") the they need to make sure you stay put.

Remember, it only takes one lawsuit over someone getting hurt or killed on a ride to screw up everyone's summer.

well... i defenatly know my restraint came up... i just dont really remember how far because i was freaking out trying to pull it back down...:P

I've had my restraint come up on a couple rides before, I've had it happen on blue streak, but the ride stopped on the lift hill when it happened, and I've had it happen on gemini. My friend steve had his lap bar come down and staple him on maggie one time, he thinks it was me because he had stapled mine while still in the station for some ungodly reason! But I didn't touch it!

------------------
Arms down.....Arms down.....Arms down.......Arms down.....Arms down....Arms down...(you think they would get it the first time?!)

my friend while on the predator and sfdl had her lap bar go all the way up then back down again, and it was on the first drop so if it werent for those seatbelts.........

Fat chris, the same thing happened to me on Iron dragon.
