Stainless steel trains?

I remember when MF first opened they bragged about how the trains or at least the fronts were stainless steel. Now I remember reading somewhere that they are now fiberglass.

Was there a reason for this change? I'm just curious.

Fiberglass??? I believe that there is a misconception with another company, most companys use fiberglass bodys and steel frames.

I know for a fact the bodys on MF's trains are stainless steel, I don't know about the frames, but it's possible.

Yes the shells on the nose of the trains were replaced, but were originally stainless steel. They looked great before they put that lame logo on the front of them. Still to this day don't understand why they don't use the "real" logo with the swooshing "M."

I have also wondered why all three of the noses are blue, even though there is a red and yellow train. That has always bothered me.

You can see what I mean in this picture: http://www.guidetothepoint.com/gallery/cp00mfdropthree1.jpg

Is there a particular reason the SS noses were removed? Were they hard to maintain or something?

I think the bare, brushed stainless look with the M logo on them would look pretty cool. All of the paint on the front does kind of suck. Is that logo that is painted on them now found anywhere else-shirts,etc? I don't recall seeing it anywhere else in the park.

The logo that is on the front of the trains now is not even paint. Its a damn sticker that peals off everytime you wash the fronts of the trains. I think Jeffs idea would be cool with the swooshing "M".

I have been to the top, and DAMN is it fun!

I'm telling ya-natural stainless steel with the shiny smooth brushed look with the blue M logo airbrushed on. Those trains would look sweet!

I know one of the steel shells got banged up pretty bad I think in '01, but I don't know how. I heard everything from a bloacking error that bumped trains to a serious bird incident, but who knows. I wasn't there.

Here's a photo of the virgin train nose. When they put the blue and orange logo on it I really thought it trashed it up.

Opening day last year they didn't have the stickers on the trains yet. Unforuneately, it was after the stainless steel noses had been replaced. I thought the trains looked really bare without anything there.

I think the plain yellow train looks better 'naked' before CP hosed all over it with the nonsense paintjob and sticker. Hell, I'd take three completely bare trains with red, blue and yellow M's, each on a different train, over the current ones. CP will change the color scheem when they find the green train in lake erie. :)

Please - don't we whine and moan about the fact that Corkscrew's trains were repainted, but never had the logo put back on the front? Yes, the stainless steel looked good, but there needs to be a logo there. I agree that the trains looked lame on opening day with nothing there. Maybe the logo they picked isn't the greatest, but it's better than nothing. I also love how most of the trains at CP say "Cedar Point" on them.

The "real" logo on the shirts and hats would've looked world-class, and maintained the shiny look of the trains. That big blue mess with the orange lettering was nasty.

I agree that the "real" logo would have been better, but honestly, I like what's there better than nothing at all. It's all opinion I guess. :)

Hey, it seemed complaing around here got the female voice back on the loading platform. Maybe we can whine enough to get them back :) I even have an airbrush we can put the M on with!

The old stainless steel fronts seemed like they were welded a lot, probably stress fractures. The fiberglass can take that type of stress better and will not cause those type of problems.

I doubt a train to train colision damaged the sheet metal. The round bumpers on the train would prevent that type of damage.

That would be true if the bumpers actually went out beyond the nose, but they don't.

Jeff, that's correct in the front, but the bumpers sticking out of the back, which match up with the front, will prevent the nose metal/fiberglass from touching.

How compressable are the bumpers?? If the the trains hit, will the bumpers compress to the point where there's still room to spare between trains?? I would hope so.

They appear to be solid rubber about 4-6 inchs wide. It will only reduce the shock of impact compared to metal on metal contact.

Also, there isn't the stainless steel back on the trains.
