Spelling

Jeff's avatar

I took a phonetics class in college, and ever since then, spelling has been mostly easy. People need to consider that English is derived from so many different other languages, that there's nothing "simple" about it, and this asinine idea won't help.

With all this technology, allowing people to be stupider is not the right idea. ;)

101 on Magnum and counting...

Here's another "simplifcation" I have issue with:
Signs that say "4 Sale." Why don't they just say "4 Sal" or "4 Sail"
Is it too much effort to write out two more letters? (For Sale)

MOO!!!

Maybe they want it to stand out. What looks cooler, gtg or g2g?

Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.

I think that some of the teachers are just fed up trying to teach kids that are unrulely and don't want to learn anyway. In a sense I blame the parents for this and the school system being afraid of doing their job because of the threat of being sued.

Trent

Thank you for bashing the kids, teachers, parents and school systems, MrTrent. But don't forget, some of the smaller schools do not share your attitude. At least the ones in Michigan don't.

I agree that teachers eventually have to "give up" for the benefit of the other students who actually have a chance at learning. Let's face it, all people are different and some children acheive greater success in school than others. While some child might be able to hit a 50 mph fastball at the age of 7 another one might not be able to swing a bat, get it, we're all different.

As far as parents are concerned, and I should have an opinion on this considering I have two children (12 year old girl, 7 year old boy), parenting is the key to child develpoment. I believe it all starts at home, from dicipline, to teaching, to loving, the parents of EVERY child play a crucial role in what type of person that child grows up to become.

Creating a new way to spell things won't change the simple fact, some kids get it, some don't........that's life.

Ouch.

That article gave me a headache!

Spellings of words should, in my opinion, stay the same unless a mass cultural movement determines otherwise (as is the case with most changes in language.) I want to stay employed. :)

For whatever reason, this thread makes me want to read a Bill Bryson book.

You are welcome, Mr. Scott. I like bashing my local school system. It's a joke.
