Speedometer missing

I was at the park today and noticed that they had taken down the speedometer. Does anybody know how long it will be down for?
I also noticed that. I wasn't sure why though

What do you mean? Was the whole sign down or was it just not working?
I was there yesterday and it was still, it just wasn't working. Whether today is a different story, I don't know.

Today the spedometer was removed from the wall entirely... at least on the public viewing side. :)

I own you!

It wasn't working on Sunday, so they are probably repairing/replacing it. I'm sure it will be back.

It was working Saturdat the 24th.

Or they took it down because it was only going 117mph. ;)

Or, possibly, because it has a tendancy to display "6."

Perhaps they are moving the sign so it is easier to see.

(or it was too heavy, and the building was sinking!)

Is the Speedometer working today? ;)

Yep, it accurately reported nothing all day.

I forgot to mention that as well. It was gone on Tuesday.

Besides the fact that Dragster would only register 117 on it :) it also would sometimes freeze on the "top" speed of <50.

A few times I saw the spedometer his 121, but then come down to about 118 because of the "leveling" out of speed once the catch car released. I would say though on average it was below 120. I hope they put it back up, but I also think it would be nice to have it on all three sides of the wall so that you can see how fast a train is coming at you.

You would've thought CP would have "rigged" the radar to inflate the speed to consistantly read 120 mph or higher. If the put it back up, I would suspect it to read 120 mph + consistantly.

I doubt very much it's radar. I would think it just measures the time it takes for the train to cross two prox switches and calculate it from there.

I would put my money on radar. When I was there last, trains were being clocked at 10-15 mph when they were in the launch position - standing still. We all remember news stories about radar clocking mailboxes and telephone poles at 20-30 mph, right?

It does look like there is some kind of sensor or radar to read the speed. It's on top of the hydraulic building aimed down the track. And I do remember it reading 5 or 6...even when at a standstill. =) I wonder if it can clock birds...or swarms of mayflies? We'll see =)

or, it could be something just reading the speed of the cable, or the gear/wheel pulling the cable. It would be similar to the speedometer on a car, which usually is a small gear that sits in the transmission on the output shaft. That's what I thought it was when I was there Friday. BTW, every time I watched, it was ~120, then dropped to 118 or so.

~no replacement for displacement, except for that big freakin' turbo hanging on the front...

That would make sense, seeing as how the ride is already monitoring such things.
