Space Spiral in future??

What are your thoughts on an observation tower in the near future?? Do you think Cedar Point would benefit from a new one. Is there demand for one?? Thoughts, Ideas??

Maybe, but I'm thinking no. If they were, they might go the poler coaster route, since you get 2 attractions in 1. However, I think those are very expensive and may be too costly for Cedar Point to consider.

Windseeker is pretty much the Space Spiral replacement.

I just think it's a shame that they continue to remove attractions that may be attractive to a crowd looking for low-key excitement. i.e Senior Citizens, Parents with young children.... First they took out Space Spiral several years back, and now they removed Good Times Theatre.... Which by the way was my break area. I would stalk the Ice show on my breaks just to enjoy the air conditioning!

Cedar Fair removes attractions that aren't attractive to park guests. Attractions that "may" be attractive to "a crowd" looking for "low-key excitement" aren't the attractions they're looking for.

I would think they'd try to cater to anyone willing to pay the price of admission, but that's just me.

IIRC, Space Spiral's ridership was low in it's final seasons.

Could that have anything to do with the A/C not working or just the fact the ride was so old that it lost it's appeal?

Or that it had a ton of down time, too. If a ride is not operating, it is not producing numbers.

Would be a cool addition to the park and doesn't necessarily need to be extremely tall. There is at least one version approved for Atlantic City that I believe is only about 300ft tall. However, one would think IF Point were to go this route for a future attraction they would make it at least taller then TTD. Could have one deck be a restaurant, one a observation deck. Could also attach a drop tower. Then you're looking at 2-4 attractions in a small space.

Personally I do not see a new one (or a poler coaster) coming to Point anytime soon if ever.

Space Spiral had low ridership and high maintenance costs. The Good Time Theater needed a lot of work. I agree that Cedar Point would benefit from more family based attractions but the bottom line is they don't remove things that are popular and work well.

I liked many of the things that have been removed over the years but simply put, their time was up and they had outlived their useful life. Some still need to get over it and move on, Cedar Point is breaking records for Cedar Fair so it's obvious what they are doing is working...

I think an indoor Live E venue combined with a couple of food stations offering different entrees would work great and I think it's a desperate need of the park given the recent removal of the Good Time Theater and lack of in park sit down eateries. I don't think it needs to be as big as Kings Island's Festhouse, but it would have to be of substantial size.

I'm hoping the renovations of the fries stands involve more than a new sign - something more along the lines of an interior redesign that allows them to take/deliver orders more efficiently.

As for another observation tower, I don't see it happening as they'd never recoup the investment. It would probably cost in the neighborhood of $10 million or more to build and it won't drive attendance, increase length of stay, or generate income.

I think a new tower would be a great addition! You'd definitely have to add more than just the tower, as others have mentioned. Maximize the space. The Eiffel Towers at KI/KD are really enjoyable, and would be even more enjoyable if you were looking at the coaster mecca that is Cedar Point.

I guess if you overlook Pink's, Chickie's and Pete's, Johnny Rockets, Midway Market, Coasters, Joe Cool Cafe, Red Garter, Panda Express, Chuck Wagon and Last Chance Saloon.

I honestly can't see Space Spiral (or any similar observation towers) coming back to The Point. Now that they've taken out Space Spiral, it would seem pointless to spend money on that rather than a new ride. However, I really like the polercoaster idea - yes, it's expensive, but it would add yet another record-breaking roller coaster and would bring back an observation tower - add on a drop tower and it's perfect! But no, I really don't see Cedar Point taking that kind of a move any time soon...

Why pay the price of admission if you don't like what they offer? Just ride a raft in.

Well, that's what they're doing. They're catering to their market; pretty much, any of us on Pointbuzz are not their market.

To be honest I really don't think that is enough for the size of the park, especially on busy summer days. To compare, the Magic Kingdom (much smaller park) has the same amount of restaurants. Cedar Point could use either a couple more, or larger seating areas at the current locations.

The Magic Kingdom isn't even close to a good comparisson for your point. Visitors, not land size is what needs to be compared and in that regard CP isn't even close. The Magic Kingdom at Disney World draws around 19.5 million visitors a year compared to CP's 3.5 million. Averaging visitors per day MK is around 53,000 whereas CP would be less than half that.

Based upon your post if both parks had the same number of sit down restaraunts then CP has a higher ratio of sit down eateries than the MK per guest.

This might be too out there...but I think a good place for Space Spiral (or a new similar ride) would be in downtown Sandusky on the lakefront. The area could be referred to as downtown Cedar Point (akin to Downtown Disney) and feature additional attractions/restaurants directly tied to Cedar Point past, present, etc.
