Space Spiral could have stayed!

Space Spiral had it's day, to be sure. Like it has been said on here, it was a marketing symbol for 30 years. But ever since MF and TTD, the focus has shifted from SS to those newer, iconic rides. It was the face of the park for 30 years. What an accomplishment! But that's no reason to keep a dull ride that wasn't taken care of the last several years

But SS was used as the marketing structure years ago. Most people don't even know it was in the logo at one point.

Absolutely loved reading this post - made my day!

I've often had a passing wish that Pointbuzz would have age segregated forums. Have a set up where everything could be read by anyone, but you can only post in areas where you meet/exceed the age limit. Perhaps an old timer's lounge? I've noticed that those who came before me are the teachers and historians. I love their posts as they ad to my collective knowledge of the park that I love. Those who have happened along more recently are pretty much annoying with their clean house attitude -- which those of us who are old enough to know better know they will come to regret. Can't count the times in the past year I've read a beautiful post about someone’s love for a removed attraction followed by callous "it was time for it to go, nobody liked it anyway" comment that made me want to ground individuals of a certain age from the internet. Not going to happen but one can wish -- right?

I see what your saying..but you want to exclude people from "a beautiful post" because they are younger than you?

There are plenty of old people that think it was time for Wildcat and Space Spiral to go. My grandmother (whom I have fond memories riding Space Spiral with) said of the removal "how many times can you go up and down in that thing before it gets old- bring on the new."

I was a little bummed about Wild Cat, but while I might be closing in on 40, meh, I don't care about any of the three departed rides. I can't say that the removal of any ride at Cedar Point would really cause me to lose sleep at night.

To be honest, until my daughter is tall enough to ride with me (43" now) I don't want to lose any more rides... It really does sadden me that she'll never get to ride Disaster and Wildcat, I was really looking forward to taking her on them. Disaster more so than Wildcat.

Right now, Cedar Point is just torture to her, she hates kiddie rides and wants to ride the coasters, but she's not tall enough. For now at least, it's Kalahari for our family trip, and Daddy will have to sneak away to Sandusky to ride Gatekeeper by himself.

Here's the thing I remember Space Spiral for: people bitching about it on Guide To The Point.. and.... that's it. The constant "it's too hot in the cabin, install an AC, you can't install an AC it'll unbalance the cabin, the windows are dirty" is all I'll really remember it for.

Nope. In the idea I expressed, (which btw is a fantasy and not something I would implement), anyone would be able to read any post. I fall into the middle age wise so I would be excluded from being able to post in what would most likely be the more interesting conversations.

Just a tad ageist...

I would, however, strongly favor a bad grammar quarantine....er...I mean, "lounge."

Expected response? "Your discriminating!"

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

I see both sides of the coin. Im in that age group that saw the SS as a marketing icon rather than a ride I looked forward to go on. Before MF and TTD it was the first thing we could see when driving down the causeway to CP. It was a great feeling seeing it.

I also know that all good things must come to an end and the SS was probably more trouble than it was worth.

One point that has not been mentioned is that given its age and deteriorating condition, the most efficient way of removing it was the way it was done here. Why not take it down when you have the wide open beach to let it topple onto? Now, with Gatekeeper in close proximity, it would cost more to take down and maintain any type of safe distance from it while coming down.

Blue people fly sideways when it rains

i miss Disaster Transport already but gatekeeper is AMAZING!
