Don't worry MF310..This will remain open...Sometimes, people just need a spot to "talk"..

A truly surreal happening...What a sad day for our space program.

so true Tim...truly surreal and sad.

it was just a couple of days ago that we had the Challenger anniversary AND the Apollo anniversary. this is so sad. so close to home and family and friends they were...

This is going to be one of those days where you remember exactly where you heard about it happening, what you were doing, what you saw on the news. 9/11 is the same way. Our kids will see this in text books in school later...it's so surreal right now because while I know it's a big deal it hasn't hit me that what is happenning right now will be in history classes. My prayers are with the families.

OMG! The Space Spiral is leaning!!" Must be the weight of that new air conditioning system everyone keeps hypothesizing about...
God help the families, there's also been rumors it was a terrorist attack. Thats only a rumor, but in this day and age who knows.
The technology does not exsist to shoot down a moving object going mach 18 at 203,000 feet.

Terrorism is not a possibility. I've worked on NASA projects in the past and the possibility of someone sabatoging while on the ground is non-exsistant also.

I remember being in pre-school when the Challenger accident happened in 1986. It seems like since then, over time, we've gone back to thinking the space shuttle missions are routine again, but I think this will, once again, change that thinking around.

I can't believe that another shuttle disaster has happened. I remember being a senior in high school when the Challenger disaster happened. They came in over the PA system & announced what happened. Everybody was in shock then & I think even more so now. This is so bizzare, that it happend as it was coming in for a landing. It was only about 10 minutes from landing. I have to admit, at first, I thought it was terrorists. I know it wasn't though do to very high altitude & very high speed. What's really eerie, is that it was almost 17 yeas to the day of the Challenger disaster (1/28/86). My wife & I are, & will be, praying for the families of those lost in the Columbia disaster. I encourage everyone who reads this to say a little prayer for those astronauts families. Even if you're not religious, please, say a quick prayer. This might not be as big a tragedy as 9/11, but, it's still a tragedy. Keep that in mind. Thanks for keeping this post open & not closing it. :(

There ain't nothin funny about this. I think with so many diasters like Sadam, 9/11, economy, and this shuttle explosion, the world is beginning to fall apart.

But think people. Are these problems an end of our prosperity, or a beginning to new and improved life?

I can't believe it ether but what gets to me is that the f***** over in the middle east said it was planed cuz of the first Israel to go to spce and also they said that because it was over Texas because Pres. Bush planed it to be over his home state when I heard they said that I got mad. (I heard it on cnn)

I was only a year old when Challenger exploded, but I'll remember 9/11 forever, not just because of the sadness and tragedy, but also since it happened the day after my 16th birthday.

I heard about it while I was at my high school bowling league this morning. I was showing everyone the TTD pics that CP took from the crane when they put it on the TV's. Something like this just makes you look at what life is all about.

Indeed, the Columbia shuttle tragedy is horrible. This has struck a chord in me even a bit more than 9/11, because when growing up I was definitely a big space geek. Now watching what was a great passion for me just blow up is mindblowing.

With all great things come great risks...
