Space problem SOLVED, parking

I was browsing around and came across this: http://www.spacesaverparking.com/multiparker/multipark.html
and more...

While I don't see this anytime in the near future at CP, I could very likely see it happening because it's a VERY efficient way of parking cars. But, I guess it seems like they don't like to build anything underground there, as I can't name 1 ride that dips into the ground.
Cool stuff....

I can't see CP installing one of those since it can only park or retrieve one car at a time per elevator. At opening many cars are entering the lot at once, and at closing many are leaving. It seems this would cause a lot of congestion. Plus, a lot of people go out to their cars in the middle of the day to get something. If this was used, they would need to have the elevator bring the car out and put it back when they were done. I think that they would be more likely to move the lot off point and use a tram or shuttle of some kind if they ever do mess around with the parking to get more space. However, this will not be needed for a long time since CP does a good job working with the space they have.

This would not work at CP. You'd get wet.

If they would do something with the parking it would probably be a garage like IOA.

Either that or buy property off point and shuttle people to the park.

I have a solution to any "space problem."

1. Get rid of Disaster Transport

2. PLEASE get rid of the employee parking lot and shuttle employees onto the peninsula from a parking lot that is on the mainland.

I think the most logical thing to do is build a parking garage there. If they were to do that it would open up a lot of room to build. I don't think this will happen for a while though because I think CP still has an good amount of land to build on without building a parking garage. So I could see something like a parking garage happen in the next 15-20 years

They should build a parking garage to replace the hotel and soak city parking...that way they could expand the park or soak city more.

A few parking garges in the main parking lot would also free up a crap load of room to expand.

MagnumXL, you've obviously never experienced the mass chaos that is an employee "parking ban" day from the point of view of an employee. It's simply a massive cluster**** because there aren't enough buses to handle all of the employees who need to make it to work, so it can get pretty ugly and mob-like.

I honestly see no need to open up that space only to the public since that doesn't add much to the parking lot as a whole. If they would added a huge parking garage or a few small ones, it would open up quite a bit of real estate, which in my opinion would be worthy of a loss in ROI.

I would second that opinion about the employee parking problem. One of the reasons being a sup is so nice is that I don't have to deal with parking bans -- and therefore the bus system -- anymore; waiting for the (often too slow and overcrowded) employee bus is just a trial, especially before and after a long day at work. (Of course, my opinion about the bus often has to do with the maturity of some of the people who ride it and hold it up frequently, but go figure...)

Well said Lee...

You won't see a parking garage on-point.

.. and off-point is an even greater problem.. Everyone is always "build off-point garages then expand into the parking lot."

You'd be surprised how difficult that is from a legal standpoint with those houses located right there.. hehehe

I didn't know CP had a parking space problem. Really the only time the parking lot is full is once or twice during the summer and they manage that well. I don't know how CP could justify paying millions for a reconstructed parking lot/garage when it seems entirely unnecessary. Also I don't see how you can blame employee parking for the problem because on busy days, we aren't even allowed to drive, and the shuttle... well that was described well by others. Let me tell you, working from open to close on the 4th of July and then having to fight hundreds of tired employees to pack onto an old stinky school bus is just the worst possible situation. In 02, I didn't even get back to commons until after 3AM because it was mass chaos every time the bus pulled in.

Thats one.

Because of the extremely high cost of building a garage, I doubt one would be built on point any time soon. If I remember right, I heard somewhere that a garage costs about $8000 a space to build, compared to $1000 for a surface lot.

If those numbers are right, I think the Point will not spend the money on a garage unless they knew they would get a good return on investment. And even at $8 a day, I doubt a garage would pay for itself fast enough to make it worthwhile.

Here's my thoughts on a parking garage: Look at the HORRIBLE mistake Eisner and Disney made with their "Mickey and Friends" parking structure at Disneyland Resort. In an attempt to get all the parking in to a building, it is now taking the same path that Magnum is rumored to be on, it's sinking, literally, and at a VERY alarming rate. NOT a good idea, at all. I don't see a space problem, never have. Really do suggest checking out ariel shots of the park. There's a wonderland of open space everywhere, especially towards the back of the park.

And I like my employee parking thank you! So Brent02, you didn't enjoy all the running and screaming just to get on the buses on parking ban days? I thought it was entertaining to watch until I realized I needed to be on the bus, not watching! I admit I hate parking bans, and am jealous of all those people that get passes to park *pout*!

Yeah speaking from an employee stand point the employee parking spaces have nothing to do with the guest parking and like Brent02 said there is only about 2 maybe 3 days out of the season when the parking lot is compleetly full.

Also the employee bus like mentioned above is not easy to get on during the busy days. The way the employees push and shove to get on it you'd think it was a cattle car! So until you've worked at CP and have had to deal with the crazyness of parking bans, then don't criticize the employee spaces for the parking problem

The employees should be thought of also. T hey deserve the parking they have, if not more. Why should they be inconvenienced just because they work there?

Building a parking garage may sound like a good idea, but it would be too ugly on the peninsula. It also would be extremely expensive. Would you sacrifice the next big coaster for a parking garage? I think not.

How much bigger does Cedar Point have to be or how many more attractions does it have to have? I know we would all like to see the park build endlessly and have umpteen coasters, but the reality of it is, you really only need so many coasters.

As far as that parking elevator thingamajiggy, The time it would take to get a car out would not be worth it. The parking employees would be there all night waiting for slower or late leavers of the park to get out. Plus what would you do if an elevator broke? I'm sure you haven't thought much about that.

We all complain about how ugly DT is, but dont you think a parking garage is just as ugly?

I will say that Universal/IOA in Orlando has a pretty decent set up for their garages, but they fit in with the area. Cedar Point wouldn't look right with the garages. Maybe they should just put all of our cars on floating barges.

Yeah, a parking deck would be a bad idea. Look at how terrible it has been for Universal Orlando. </sarcasm>

Although there is designated areas for employees to park, they aren't employee only parking areas. So guests can park there also.

That is what I thought, Flisk. Usually, I park in what would probably be an employee parking area, but I never get stopped or ticketed.
