Something Interesting

I was just looking on Intamins site and was reading on Dragster and heres what it says,

GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS 2004

"Top Thrill Dragster" the fastest and highest Roller Coaster in the world opened on May 1, 2003 in Cedar Point, Sandusky, USA

The ride accelerates the trains to a top speed of 200 km / h (124 mph) in four seconds before climbing the 128 m (420 ft) tower section. The train will race through a twisting section during climbing that will twist the train 90 degrees before the top hill section. Once the train has passed the 90 degrees top hill section, it will drop to a vertical twisting section that will twist the train 270 degrees before racing back to the station.

What I don't get is it says its top speed is 124. Why do they have it 124 and have it say 120. I have seen it hit many times 122 and 124 but did they change the speed on it?

First rollback on Dragster July 23 2003 since then 15

A few possibilities: A) The day that Guinness tested the ride, Dragster pulled 124 MPH. B) The park advertises 120 because the ride needs a minimum 120 MPH to clear the top and/or averages 120 MPH C) The Guinness book writers got lazy and rounded the number to 200 km/h, and it converted back to 124 MPH (don't have a calculator handy, can't do the conversion...)

Or maybe it's a typo, who knows?

Dragster's speed has not been changed. It regularly fluctuates between 118-124mph each day. I have also seen a train clear on 118mph. I wonder how accurate that radar gun really is...
who cares how accurate it is, its still cool

Even so, I think that Guinness should post the record as the advertised speed...
who cares most of the time it gose over the speed of 120 any way

Guiness posts the record as it was the day they came to measure it....so if you say you can lift 1,000 pounds, and the day they are there you happen to lift 1,001 pounds because thats what they measure, then the record goes as 1,001. It doesn't go in as 1,000 because thats what you advertised as being able to lift.

Millennium Force isn't the tallest coaster in the World any more but I still think it is the best coaster in the World (and in that park for that matter).

I'm sure its a typo. In either the 2000 or 2001 edition, Guiness said that the Cedar Point had the most coasters in the world. 14 (at the time) Guiness went on to say that Cedar Point had coasters like the "Woodcock Express" and the "Blue Stack"

I remember that Johnboy. Myself and some friends had a good laugh at that, especially the typo for Woodstock.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

That makes sense to me. if they were to speed test the fastest car they would give the fastest speep not what the advertised speed was supposed to be.

So when they were testing it it probably went 124 mph and that is the fastest a roller coaster has ever gone. Why would they even bother to come to the park ? they have to give the fastest speed. Do u get it yet TTD went 124 MPH the day they were there and thay took the best and gave them the record.

Wait a sec, Woodcock express and Blue Stack? LMAO! Do you know what year they put that for sure, because I have the 2000 book and didn't see it. Though, I could've over-looked it.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I'm certain that the mistake appeared in the 2001 edition of the record book.

120 MPH is the estimated speed from the statistics calculated before the coaster was constructed and opened. It's the same with Millennium Force, with 92 MPH. CP clocks the speed at 93 MPH, just like on the TTD height comparison chart.

Woodcock Express?

Sounds interesting, but it's not my cup of tea.

I wonder what position riders assume for that particular thrill.

Sounds like an alternative name for TTD. Anyways, I have a sudden urge to ride Magnum Nextel-200, or perhaps the Spleen Streak.

It's because they are flat out liars. ;) And, they like messing with your head.
Actually, my for my first ride on TTD, we hit a peak of 129 mph during the launch. That was last Tuesday morning.
129 mph? I just find that extemely hard to believe. Are you certain it was 129? I think the fastest I've heard was 126, but I wasn't actually there. So the fastest I've seen was 122 mph.
