Solar Eclipse Event

I noticed people looking for their bricks, so of course I went to check out https://www.cedarpoint.com/legacy-walk

Still no updated brick finder yet.

Well. CP Security wasn't too keen on my 6 pack of Bud Light. They said i was too intoxicated to enter. I'm in the parking lot just as the eclipse is starting if anybody wants to hang ;) Look for a blue Model Y. Come thirsty, Ihave beers to spare. Lets get this shindig started!

Have they always played the announcement video music in the Gatekeeper station?

I keep coming back looking for a report from someone who was actually there. You know, things like the weather, the crowd, the traffic, the lunch,… the eclipse. You know. Details, please.

The event was really well done, lots of nice signage including several with details about the eclipse. T-shirts sold out in the first hour but the lanyards, buttons and glasses they handed out were nice. They also had cards you could write on to be placed in a time capsule for the next event in 2099. When we arrived they were playing Total Eclipse of the Heart that set a nice mood for the day, my teenage kids even noticed and appreciated it lol…

Crowd was a very acceptable level for this event as well, nothing like the massive crowds at “exclusive” events we’ve been to at places like Disney.

Gatekeeper was running 2 trains so it was a walk on as was Maxair. We waited maybe 15 or 20 minutes for Wild Mouse. All ride crews were supervisors so they were doing a great job. Everyone we came across including employees and guests were in a good mood and enjoying themselves.

Traffic was non-existent both driving from and back to Toledo. The weather was mostly sunny and warmer than any opening day I can recall.

Food was the normal menu items at the Grand Pavilion with a few extra dessert items themed to the eclipse. If I have any complaint today it was the lines waiting for drinks at the bar upstairs!

They stopped all rides from 3-330 for the eclipse and being in that park with no ride noise was something special in itself. Add the eclipse and the darkness it brought along with the confused birds trying to figure out was going on was something I have never experienced in my lifetime. My son even mentioned it felt otherworldly in that place and I agree. Really hard to explain as it was both the eclipse and eerie quiet of the park minus seagulls and the background music.

Overall it was a great time and experience for our family, we all had a great time and it was well worth it.

Story time.

Today was like a mini Clark Griswold vacation rolled up in one single day. Traffic was smooth sailing, that was until we hit the Detroit area. We left with 2 hours to spare, and burned up every second of that on I-75. Watching the minutes tick by and realizing that you might not make it, and that there’s nothing you can do about it, was really a terrible feeling. Things opened up by the time we got to the Turnpike. At this point our ETA was 3:15pm, and I’m thinking we’re going to drive 5 hours to roll into the parking lot right as the eclipse ends.

The fact that everyone was pulling off to watch, meant the roads in Sandusky were completely empty. Somehow we caught no lights and rolled into the parking lot at 3:06pm. We had enough time to park the car and head to the entrance plaza. We decided the view from there would be a great spot to watch the eclipse.

The nerves of not making it and having disappointed kids, quickly disappeared as soon as the totality started. The view was absolutely surreal. While seeing the sun get eclipsed by the moon was great, being surrounded by a 360 degree sunrise/sunset is what I’ll remember forever. Hearing what’s normally a bustling busy park, fall silent except for the confused sea(bay)gulls, was an experience that is hard to put into words.

Once the eclipse ended, we headed into the park and spent just under 3 hours enjoying the rides and food. The crowds were just right in my opinion, and best of all we finally got a ride in the cheese car!

What had the recipe of being an absolute disaster, completely flipped around during that unimaginable 3 minutes 43 seconds. I still have no idea how we made it on time, but this will definitely be a trip our family never forgets.

Talk about a story with a happy ending! I am so thankful it worked out for you and your family. My two kids and I were in Muncie, IN. Wife had to work but didn't seem too disappointed. This was my first time seeing totality and it was exactly how people who have seen it before always describe it. Despite haze and high, thin clouds, I was amazed and was able to view it from beginning to end. April in Indiana is not known for clear skies, and I am so happy it worked out for us. And you too!

I was watching from Battery Park and heard the crowd cheer from Cedar Point when totality hit! And yes, the animals were going nuts!

I dunno about April being clear skies in Indiana, I'm'm in Fort Wayne and in the middle of a 3-day downpour. but yeah, the eclipse was great.
