The Breakwater Cafe location could make for an excellent night club. Redo the reasturant as a tiki bar/beach bar type thing, put some torches around the patio, expand the bar and put in a dance floor. Then get some good bands and stay open until 2:30. CP had a similar place called the Circus Bar back in the 60's and it always seemed popular when I passed by as a little kid.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Yeah, something like that would be cool. I wonder if Cedar Point management has avoided something like this for fear of drunken drivers ruining someone's family trip. I guess they could admit resort guests only...

How about a special ERT for just resort guests only, no season passes allowed unless you are staying at the resorts. Keep the ERT for all at 9am, but an hour after the park closes for resort guests only, at certain coasters listed just like for the morning ERT, with a resort guest card having to be shown to enter the line. There has to be more incentive for people to dump some cash at the resorts with the economy in this condition. I'm sure the season pass people would be pissed, ( i am a season pass holder myself ),but so are the resort guests every morning when their special ERT perk for staying onsite and paying an arm and a leg for a room, is not so special. You have to do something to get return guests to fill those rooms!

Hey this concept is not hard. It works for Disney... but then again Disney does not have crappy resorts or rooms.
I am still bummed that Disney axed pleasure island.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Me too crazy horse, I just walked through there a little over a week ago and a number of the old clubs are just sitting vacant there with the doors locked and roped off with a section of the main walk they blocked off with some planters. It's pretty sad. And they put in that crappy tethered balloon ride.

Not a good idea. To have a night club, you need some alcohol. But people would be drunk as hell and the whole place would be crazy.
Ever been to Downtown Disney? They have multiple bars and I've never seen anyone running around "drunk as hell".
I don't think an after hours party in Soak City is the right idea, but some kind of bar/night club for the resorts would be a good idea. An outdoor bar right on the beach (with a nice covered roof for the rainy nights) would be pretty awesome. If you've ever seen the outdoor bar at Kalahari, something like that.
Kalahari has an outdoor bar?
Every time I hear something about this place, it makes me want to go more and more.
Kalahari has an indoor bar in the nicer of the two sit-down restaurants, a swim-up bar in the indoor water park, and an outdoor bar, where they also serve a limited selection of food.

Thats it, I'm done staying at Castaway Bay. I seriously had no idea and can't believe I've wasted all this time staying at Castaway. The kids will probably like Kalahari better.
Yeah, after glancing at Castaway Bay's rates page, there's absolutely NO comparison to be made between the two resorts. We stayed in a whirlpool suite for around $200/night at Kalahari. They don't even offer anything like that at CB, but a (very) standard room with 2 queen beds costs $50 more. That's hilarious.

I don't understand why Cedar Fair has not looked at Kalahari and said "Uh Oh. We have things to change" I like Castaway bay, and I stay there 2 times a year. Those are the 2 trips a year where I am there for 3 days, I spend a lot of money and do everything from Challenge Park, to the shows to the beach and every time I walk away feeling ripped off.
I haven't stayed at Kalahari, because I think I'm going to have the same feeling. I guess I'll change my reservation for September.
Team Disney Orlando (TDO) axed Pleasure Island because of the cost to run the place versus what they were making on the place. My favorite, the adventure club was very expensive to run with cast of characters. Most of the time when I went, the clubs were dead. I didn't matter what night of the week.
Most of the time, a lot of people would go in and just look and not spend any money. I was guilty of this many times. I would go and sit in the comedy warehouse and not purchase anything or sit through shows at the adventures club.
I have seen the Dive in Movie taking place at the Beach water park once. The life guards seem on edge because of all the tubes and people in the wave pool and limited visibility.
My problem would be if i were to see a movie in a pool like that, the movie might be boring and I would fall asleep. I own a pool and once I fell asleep one my floating mattresses. I rolled over in the pool, took a nice lung full of water and spewed, coughed and hacked everything I sucked in. Not a fun experience.
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
Cedar fair has looked at the Kalahari and I believe that Kinzel compared themselves as being a boutique destination that offers other perks the Kalahari can't. Plus when is the last time you saw a second castaway bay springing up at another park?

Me too, even though the last time I was there, I don't remember much past the midnight New Year party. :-D
Yeah, they offer an hour of ERT in exchange for being charged $50 more for an experience that seems laughable by comparison. But if CB is filling rooms at those prices, more power to 'em, I suppose.
For us, staying at Kalahari is not something we'll do often, but we certainly didn't feel as if we got ripped off. Sure, everything in the resort is overpriced, but the overall value proposition seems reasonable, to us anyway.

When I said club I didn't mean "party party party lets all get wasted". With enough lights, lifeguards can see. It would just be an option for after hours like downtown disney where people have fun.
Let's Get Weird.
with enough lights, lifeguards can see is pretty arguable. Even in full daylight its tough for guards to see everything at times. Not to mention how difficult it is to get the more immature members of society to follow rules and listen to guards, add alcohol and that problem gets worse.
they still do the employee nights at SC. wasn't really that busy when I went, I have to wonder how much they made from the beer in comparison what they lost paying guards, running the filters, and pumps and everything else. Those nights had the lazy river, some slides and the bar. Slides are at least pretty easy to watch after dark in that you only have the small catch pool.

If you add too many lights, it will take away from the effect of being there at night. Any nighttime water activities with or without alcohol would increase their liability insurance premiums exponentially.
I like the comparisons to Disney, but if you go to Orlando, the whole Disney area is like a compound where no one needs to leave for anything. At CP, I would assume people avoid the resorts because of their costs, so again, there isn't a demand for night time activities except for few demographics.
I'd love if when I went as a young adult there was night life, but we really just hung out in the room and crashed after a long days in the park.
