Just out of curiosity, how many of you have actually lifeguarded before? I did it for 1 season at a camp (we had a waterfront). It was boring as all hell. I only had to make 2 rescues. Once during swim tests, and the other when a non-swimmer tipped over the canoe and slipped out of their life jacket.

Now, I'm not saying DON'T become a lifeguard. I'm just saying think VERY carefully about what you're getting yourself into. It's a much different type of job than many people expect.

Other than that, get ready to have the MOST AMAZING summer of your life. No other job can beat the thrill of working at Cedar Point.

I'm too sexy for my harness!

I'll be there! But I hear that basically all we do is stand on top of slides, and tell people when to go. I am 100% okay with that.

ive never had a job as a lifeguard but i took a class through the red cross for certification when i was sixteen. my instructor told us flat out on the first day "getting in the water is a last resort for lifeguards" and that you might never see any action.

another fun fact we might have to look forward to: when i taught swimming last year, a little girl dropped a "baby ruth" in the pool and our manager made the lifeguard scoop it out. idk if we'll ever have to so something like that, but ive spent many hours mentally preparing myself just in case

you guys dont have a very good idea of what the lifeguards do. the cp lifeguards r trained by ellis which is very different for red cross. you have to be constanly walking back and forth if you are looking at a pool type area. you have to be always looking at the water and if u are caugth not paying attention you get in trouble. they also to vat testing which is done while the park is open and they trow a dummy in the water and u have a certain amount of time to rescue is, if you take to long u get discipline, if u do it more then once i believe u get transfered. also ellis comes in when the park is open and will observe the lifeguards, you dont know when they are, and they are very picky they score you on everything. as for standing on top of slides, u work in a rotation so you may do that but you will also be watching other areas of the park. so basically u do not just stand around and you will be in the water at random times. also you have in-services that u come in after the park is closed and practice the things a lifeguard needs to know

so no scooping of any kind will occur???

ok, so some of you may be missinformed on a few things. We as lifeguards go through the ellis and associates class. They are the one that provides our certification. I must say lifeguarding can become very tedious. We walk back and forth staring at water, measuring kids and making sure people are having a fun safe time.(glorified babysitter). Its all pretty boring till something happens and then its gets hectic very fast. Were trained and retrained in order to respond quickly and effectivley. I can't promise you that youll have a save but I can tell you that almost everyone did last year. Many had quite a few saves. Its gonna be a blast this summer, theres a lot of walking and a lot of boring times but lifeguards are a interesting breed. We have fun on our breaks and outside of work. When most crews are maybe 20 ish we have three crews of 40+. So there is always someone to talk to and hang out with. Im not telling you this to scare you but more or less to prepare you. If you think your gonna sit on top of a slide and say go then Im sorry but your mistaken. We do have positions for that but thats not all we do. If anyone has any more questions you can message me or post on here. There should be a few Tls reading to help answer questions. Remember there are no dumb questions and looking forward to see you all this summer.
