So When Will We Find out?

I was talking to a maintenence worker at Valleyfair yesterday and asked him why CP is delaying the announcement for their new ride even though construction has started and he they haven't signed all of the contracts yet.

Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah, a manufacturer is going to start shipping millions of dollars worth of parts without a contract. Your maintenance worker is a moron.

Don't the signs posted say that "Cedar Point is building for the future. Look for news later this season!" This makes me think that we will hear something before the end of October. Anyone agree???
good point Jeff!
Well, let's see....my "season" pass is good until April 30...so ideally, the season won't be over until then. Frankly, I'm not expecting an announcement before November.

Cedar Point better announce before the end of the season, I need my regular announcements, and photos after the end of the season. I'm pretty sure they will announce it before the end of CP's season [meaning the end of october] If they don't oh well.

i said to look for news later this season, you got news..track showed up, they said they are building some monsterous ride...etc..thats news from the park...they never said look for an annoucement

I would like it if it was this weekend, now that it's after 9/11 and all, but I doubt the powers that be would make the announcement then.

I didn't see this, but a friend told me Toledo 11 did a story after they discovered there was structure going up last weekend. Bear in mind that I didn't see this, but he said they talked to someone from the park that they said CP is building a 420 ft. tower. My guess would be they actually talked to an enthusiast or someone in the GP, but my friend insisted it was someone from the park. He also said they talked to random people to see what they thought of CP's "420 foot tower", and not one person thought it would be a coaster. If that's true, I guess Toledo 11 overlooked the very obvious hoards of track in the parking lot.

Like I said, I'm really unsure of my friend's facts, but this is just what he told me.

I don't think that they will announce the new ride anytime after the end of november, because if they want it in the 2003 Guinness Book of World Records (if it is a record breaker), they'd have to tell Guinness by about that time. The books always get published and printed before the new year starts.
The ride won't be able to make the Guiness Book of World Records until it is up and running and an official measurement is taken.

Guinness 2003 is already out.
Guinness books may be out (and thats all that matters to some people) but the record is set whenever it happens.

So while SFMM did have the most coasters in the world, by the time the next book was out they were tied with CP.

I don't know if anyone has posted this, but I received the September issue of The Fun Times. On the front is says: New for 2003! Something very big is coming to Cedar Point in 2003. Construction has just started on an incredible new attraction. Keep your eyes and ears open. You don't want to miss the announcement!

I know this does not point anything obvious out, but it does look like they are planning an announcement.

Ooops, Sorry. I figured I wasn't the first one to get the Fun Times.
They should hold a huge press conference to announce that there will be an announcement the next day. Then, the next day, just update the website with some small banner about the the beast they are unleashing on us. Sort of like what Tom Green did on the Monica Lewinsky special. Just for laughs and giggles they should do it. I would find it amusing.
Jeff you are right the the Valleyfair maintenence worker I've talked to is a moron because it doe not make any sense to me that construction would start before all of the final contracts are signed but that what this idiot told me! :-)
MF got the title for tallest coaster in the world as well as Cedar Point for most rides in Guinness. MF opened in May and SD2K opened in August so I'd think that this coaster would definitely make it into the book for 2003.

The 2003 book is already out. If you don't believe me, do a search on amazon.com. Trust me, its out. Unless of course you meant the 2004 book....

It would be cool if after so many feet they added a banner to the structure and it gave a clue to what the ride will be, at least until an official announcement is made.
