A rollback, yes.
One would think that a death of SOME kind had to have occurred SOME time at CP. Just the odds of that!

Quite a few trees have given their lives in service to the park over recent years... ;)

How can I say I feel unsafe? Because that is the way I feel. lol. Plain and simple. Everyone has their own opinions, they are like..well you know.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
I dont know the actual numbers or anything, but i think the answer is that there has been no deaths caused by any mechanical function of a ride. Any deaths have been caused by health issues by the riders or other outside circumstances.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the park's lucked out a couple of times. The Magnum collision certainly wasn't that bad, but at least two other incidents had the potential to be lethal.

Yep. And I do think the "Shards R Us" event could've been much worse.

True. Some have the potential to be lethal, but they were not. The park has had some very close shaves, but somehow lucked out on them.
Yeah, I'm kinda surprised someone didn't lose an eye when that happened. Would have taken a lot less to do that than to break the skin.

About the MS incident many years ago: When returning to the station a rider had their hand caught between the platform and train, sustaining a painful but not critical injury. To avoid a recurrence of this, several inches of black plastic fibers (like broom bristles) were added at platform level just before the station to serve as a warning to get your body parts out of this area. Either that's what happened or the Recall Corporation implanted a false memory.
Just say no to trims
Every park has it's share of incidents to be sure, but I think CP's outstanding record has a lot to do with the maintenance culture at the park going back to the 60s. Rideman Dave can probably shed more light on this, but I believe the man in charge of maintenance at CP in the 60s played a big role in developing the safety inspections and testing procedures common in parks today. Basically he and CP were pioneers in modern ride safety, and it shows and has been extremely successful. In all the years CP has been open not one person was killed because of a machine malfunction. That is something CP must be very proud of and something neither Disneyland or Disney World can match.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
This is exactly why I wanted to be a sweep, and not a ride host.
There is just so much pressure; I mean you are actually responsible for people's lives. That's a lot of stress! I would never want to get complacent in that kind of a position. It's one thing being responsible for garbage, but an entirely different one for a multi-million dollar piece of machinery carrying thousands of people on a daily basis.
Sure, sweeps have to be on their feet if they notice any incidents or whatnot but I was reading in the wiki for Disney Incidents how the ride host was not trained properly, and because of that a guest died. Imagine how guilty he must have felt!
My only real ride op experience is on the Iron Dragon, and I read the manual and everything (which is over 100 pages) so CP does a good job at preparing their ride hosts. If you're not on controls it's pretty hard to make a mistake. Even dispatch is like 2 buttons. But you always have to be on your feet!
I commend all the ride hosts, especially the ones at Cedar Point, since we have a pretty clear track record so far.
