I'm sure there are plenty of kids unfamiliar with Snoopy arriving at the park asking their parents for something from the Snoopy Boutique on the way out of the park.
That's the part I don't like. Changed my mind, I vote for ogres and dragons. My kids have never asked for those.
I'm bringing this post back to life :) I'm a previous character performer for both Orlando theme parks and I would love to see CP bring in some new characters, but I don't think they should get rid of the peanuts characters!
Funny you say that, because I was thinking the same thing just yesterday. I think Cedar Fair should snatch the rights to another group of characters/ movie but continue to make Snoopy and the Peanuts gang the center of attention. An example being Mickey Mouse compared to other Disney characters.

Halloweekends- Harvest Fear, Tombstone Terror-Tory
Ride Operations- Professor Delbert’s Frontier Fling
Only Mickey and the "other Disney characters" are all...well...Disney characters. What sense would it make for Cedar Fair to buy into a contract with another brand? I'm going to ho out on a limb and guess that character rights/usage is not a cheap venture.
You don't sell Coke and Pepsi. You pick one.

Who/what, how, and why?
Those are the 3 questions they'd need to answer before they think about bringing another IP in, let alone adding it and keeping Peanuts.
These have already been dealt with in a previous post, so I'm not going to rehash them, but I can't think of a popular IP whose licensing isn't already snatched up by another chain AND would be a popular fit next to the Peanuts. Disney creates its characters or owns the production companies who created those characters. It's not like someone created Donald Duck separately from Disney and sold the licensing...
Where would you put the new characters? Camp Snoopy and Planet Snoopy are both really popular areas. Would you really want to mess with the theming of either area to fit in a new IP?
Finally, why? What would be the purpose behind having two separate children's properties within Cedar Fair? More merchandise? I'd think not because you'd probably have to bargain for a different licensing fee than they got with the Peanuts (hint: probably more expensive) AND you have the same merchandising space in the parks. You're taking away from the sales of one and hoping that you profit with the new one (which is already less likely).
So in all, while it might seem like a fun idea to have a ton of different characters from different IPs, Cedar Fair probably wouldn't add to the Peanuts if they were to do so. In all likelihood, they would be replaced.
All very valid points! Just coming from working at a larger theme park (which, mind you, I am a little biased), it would make sense to me to bring in other characters. I would personally go with Nickelodeon because of the fact that, right now, they are not being used at Universal much. There are characters, like the Spongebob and Madagascar and Dora characters that are, but there are still so many characters that they aren't using. There were a lot of characters at the Nick Hotel but once that got changed to a non-Nickelodeon entity, characters like the ninja turtles, blues clues, fairly oddparents, paw patrol, and others, are not being used. Now, granted, from a business standpoint it probably doesn't make much sense, but I wish it did, lol!
I would be surprised if the Peanuts contract would even allow for such a thing. Surely there's something in the contract that prevents, for example, Peanuts characters mingling with Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

The original person was probably just using Disney characters as an example.
That said, I don't see that happening. Of course, CP made their own sets of characters just for Steel Vengeance and also for Battle for CP, so that's sort of a secondary set of characters, albeit aimed at a different audience.
Not to mention, CF had the ability to negotiate to retain the rights to Nickelodeon when they took over the Paramount parks. I couldn't see them going back to Viacom and saying we want back in. If I were Nickelodeon, I'd ask for a few hundred Brinks trucks.
And trust me, I get the appeal. I still miss the days of Hanna-Barbera at Kings Island. I grew up riding what was then called the Beastie, which turned into a Scooby Doo themed ride with the Mystery Machine as the photo booth. I love all of those characters and wish they'd return somewhere in some capacity.
But unless CF wants to dump even more money into a more costly IP, unfortunately it won't happen.
Scooby Doo, the junior wooden coaster, opened with the park in 1972 before The Beast was built. Sometime after The Beast’s debut, the ride underwent a little reprofiling, a tunnel was added and the name was changed to Beastie. Then it was Fairly Odd Coaster and now it carries the name Woodstock Express.
Hanna-Barbera cartoons are the best ever, lots of character possibilities. Sheriff Bing Bing Bing Richochet Rabbit & Hop-a-long would fit in Frontier Town. Hillbilly Bears also. Wacky Racers were my favorite.
Exit, stage right even.....
I can think of some cartoon characters with amusement park ties that would be much more....adventurous.

And you wouldn't be the least bit biased in thinking so would you, Dungeon Mast- ... er, uhh, I mean Kevinj?
Proud to have fathered a second generation coaster enthusiast destined to keep me young at heart and riding coasters with a willing partner into my golden years!
I gave this more thought, and actually, I'd much rather have the Peanuts than anything else. Sure there are some things that kids might like, such as Paw Patrol or other things from TV nowadays, but most adults probably don't care about that modern stuff. With Snoopy, both adults and kids love it. Even if it is somewhat old, when I was younger I always associated it with Geauga Lake (actually I still do) and never needed to watch the show to know and love it.
My younger boy called Geauga Lake "Snoopy Park" because he couldn't pronounce Geauga. Of course now that he's 15 that Dungeons and Dragons idea would probably appeal to him as an add on. He would never accept it as a replacement for Peanuts though.
Way back, the Peanuts characters were based out of Minnesota, now they're based out of California. Cedar Fair has a Peanuts use franchise. Cedar Point is the flagship park. There have been t-shirts with the peanuts gang riding the rollercoasters. There have been many Peanuts movies. I would love to see a movie 'the Peanuts go to Cedar Point'.
I've got 6 shirts
-CB and Snoopy in front seat of Magnum
-CB and Lucy in front seat of Raptor
-CB and Snoopy watching CP fireworks 'What a Day'
-CB running away from Mean Streak
-Peanuts gang at MF
-Snoopy on ??? coaster
