Snoopy ROCKS on Ice!!!

BioChic-yes!!! I loved the Bill Murray part with the popcorn!!! And to just add to what everone was saying...I think that this is going to be a great addition, especially families. (although it's sad that the IMAX is going away......the first time that I saw a show there was this season as a matter of fact.) I think that being CP uses the Peanuts characters as their theme, they need to show them more, and I think Snoopy on Ice is a great idea! ------plus, it's airconditioned....yes put those people in there, make them cooler and not grumpy from being in the sun all day, makes our lives much easier as employees!!!

Sad  to see the IMAX go. I loved visiting it every time I went to CP. The show on ice will be an additional "kiddie" attraction to bring in more family crowds. I am sure I will go see it even though it may end up being a little "corny".

I want to play hockey on the ice!!

I'm glad CP is ditching the IMAX, the OMNIMAX stuff is better anyway and there are venues not far from there that offer it.

But this is coming from a rinkrat, born and raised at an ice rink pretty much....so I'm biased.

Knotts has a large theatre that was called the Good Time Theatre until Cedar Fair Purchased the park. It also ran Ice Shows in addition to mainstream concerts.

I think of it as an opportunity for the point. On the otherhand, I think a new venue would have worked as well. Maybe they should have torn down the aquatic stadium and put it there?

Also, how is the theatre gonna fit an ice area/stage. IMAX theaters are not that multidimensional.

They're probably doing a *huge* renovation of the theatre to MAKE it fit.  That would explain spending so much money on the entire package...

"You can see IMAX in Dearborn at the Henry Ford Museum.  You just have to drive a litttle further, you people that live in Ohio and beyond.  Maybe its time you felt what it's like being a Michigander having to endure the drive time factor."

Hahahahaha! lol Yeah take that! :P There's also an IMAX at the Detroit Science Institute (something like that) although I haven't been there in awhile.

Omnimax...drool...

I saw one in Charlotte, NC.  It was on caves, and it was the only video in which the IMAX team didn't film parts of it themselves.  They had to teach people how to record because they would not go cave diving. There aren't very many of those at all, and they're awesome!

Out here in ValleyFair country, we have an IMAX theater and view the same films broadcast @ CP.  In the six years we've held passes, we've only seen two films everyone liked (Jordan and Alien invasion), one mediocre disappointment (ThrillRide) and maybe one more CoastaBaby stayed up for (Extreme Sports or something?) which adds up to three years of ZZZZZZZZZZZZ and lots of fidget time.

Despite our weekly VF visits, we rarely go to the theater more than once except for inclement weather.  We'll even watch the live shows at least twice...

The ice show is a fabulous family addition.  CBaby's tall enough for Wicked and was intruiged by the press release--but was far, far more excited to see the Snoopy show open.  And she IS a coaster fan--she sneaked on her first hyper at age 5, loves freak airtime (which kids her size get plenty of) and despises seat belts/trim brakes like any red-blooded RCE.  Heck, I've even seen her fight to keep riding PKI's Beast (during nighttime ERT) no matter how much it battered her...holding her head in one hand, her elbow in the other while screaming and kicking for more!  Nevertheless, the Snoopy show was CP's best addition in her POV.

Frankly, an adult can get a good helping of coasters at any of the major Ohio parks.  The park that keeps the whole family happy will have the edge.  CP made a good step in the right direction.  Now if they could just plunk down a Zach's Zoomer/Beastie type coaster...

Down in Cinci, there's both an Omnimax (at the Museum Center) and now an Imax.  One question, what's the difference?  I always thought they were the same.

I think it's a great move. CP needs some more family attractions. Personally, I felt the screen was too big...I always got sick. But when I go to The Cleveland Science Center, I'm fine????????

Anyway, I wonder how many seats they will have to take out to accomadate the ice rink. Or is the area behind the screen bigger than I think?

IMAX and Omnimax both use the Imax 15/70 (15-perf per frame 70 mm) projection system. The difference is that IMAX is projected on a flat screen while Omnimax is projected on a domed screen. Domed screens present special problems compared with flat screens, in that a bright image on one side of the screen will tend to light up the opposite side of the screen and wash out a high-contrast image. But the dome has the advantage of more closely matching the normal field of human vision.
15/70 projection is an interesting system because the film moves sideways through the projector gate, which means that a very large amount of film (15 perfs instead of the usual 8) has to move through the gate in a very short period of time (roughly 1/96th of a second!) and the picture still has to be locked in place in the gate to produce a clear image on the screen. IMAX developed the technology to make this kind of projection possible (at frame rates up to 60 FPS, which means moving the film in 1/240th of a second!).

(Edit: Whoops! IMAX is 15/70, not 11/70. I don't know where I got that 11 from...!)

Wow, thanks Dave.  Is there anything you don't know?? (at least, when it comes to the amusement world)  :)

I guess I don't understand the "family" comments from the people here...Sure mom and dad and the little kids will like it, but what about the teenage/20's guys and even girls? This is the targeted age of amusement parks, and the IMAX could be watched by everybody, but I don't think this can...

Actually, the target audience would be the largest percentage of the population.  That's currently known as the baby boomers.  Parks have gone out of their way to add restaurants, live entertainment, gentler rides, park appearance improvements, and expanded properties. Although families are important, pleasing this age group is also very important to a park.

This new attraction is good for coaster loves, it will take a few hundred people out from the midway for a few hours! Shorter Lines!
I was interested in film before I knew I was interested in amusement parks. But apparently I wasn't interested enough 'cause I accidentally lopped four perfs (about the size of a 35mm film frame) off of the IMAX frame when I was describing it earlier. I've edited the relevant posts; IMAX has fifteen perfs per frame.

It's enough to make me appreciate the 16mm stuff at work and the Super-8 stuff I have at home: Only one perf per frame. :)

I'm definitely excited about the show...expecting some bugs because it's the first year of it, but I'll definitely be first in line to check it out. Also probably great for the figure skating enthusiasts in college that are looking for a way to keep skating during the summer...should be interesting to see what it's like!
